My point is the 2012 version of the Yotes looked awful while this year's version was competitive in every game and was in position to win many of their games. That's the most improved program in the conference. Now, one may argue that when a team was as bad as the Yotes were last year, anything is remarkable improvement but, seriously, no team should start a game with USD expecting a cake-walk. That includes NDSU next week in Fargo. Sure, odds are NDSU will win by several touchdowns but I won't fall off my chair if the score is much closer.

Yep. The Yotes aren't as awful as last year. Congrats to them.

good win for the jacks, I doubt you will have trouble with YSU

their run D is something god awful, Crockett and Ojuri each had 100 yd games and I think We had nearly 300 passing and 4 TD'sTD's

I was at the game, front row behind our bench!! Might be the best overall game we have played!

                      Here are my .03 cents.

Offense just seemed to have a better rythem today. Like sumner is getting more in sync with the wrs. Several wr made big plays today.

Defense was wierd watching. Made huge plays and gave up huge plays. Were aided with the fact usd qb overthrew plently of op wrs. Even though the last 2 games now are against teams with lossing records they just looked better. Love it when we blitz. Actually allows the strengh of the dline to use their speed and those line backers coming in got great pressure. Seems the defense is on the verge of gaining that bend but don't break mantra they use to have.

Specials teams is still sort of a smh unit. Miss pat and blocked fg but all of a sudden the punt return is a the special teams strenght when that was the biggest weakness we had 2 years running. Would have been nice if 1 of the 8 guys who were standing around the goalline on the punt coverage would have looked or gotten into positon to down the balls. They sort of all ran there got there then stop. Its like get your hands up and on your toes and looks for the ball.

Overall a nice win. I didn't think we were going to win so I am happy to have been proven wrong

I guess I had 1 more cent to add.

I think got lucky they really didn't have an effective running game. Our d held on that which was nice to see injuries aside maybe they are really hurtin but the run game didn't look good. D didn't get fooled with the zone option razamataz stuff they sometimes run.

Also this is just me speculating but it seems the passing game is clicking better lately. Timing seems better and seems sumners throws have been on the money. Accuracy really has improved imho but it might be related to losing cam jones. I feel sumner might have looked to him almost to much some times and not doing proper checkdowns and would miss some chances on guys who could have gotten the ball. Seems the throwing the ball away and not taking a sack are still an issue apparently we have to learn to still live with but it seems things are smoother and I love seeing rodrigez out there. He had some big plays today too. The swing pass is a nice weapon to have in our back pocket with zz or issac. Just feel like the passing game right now is as consistance as we have seen in awhile.

Scoring TD's in the red zone versus FG's in the red zone. That was my take on the biggest reason for the outcome. They kicked two FGs inside the 10. Jacks got 6 (except for the blocked FG which before the ridiculous sack was in the red zone). They outgained the Jacks, but when the defense needed to make a play, it mostly happened.

I don't know if this was gameplanning or what, but the Jacks did not get much pressure all day and only rushed 3 or 4 a lot of the time. Some of those long completions and 3rd down conversions were because of the lack of pressure. However, when needed late, they dialed up the blitz at the absolute perfect time on the 4th down play and the pick 6 play. Not sure if this was the plan to not blitz much and only at very key times, but it worked.

Turnovers can kill. They can't turn it over next week because they may have to score...a lot.

TV blog today has some interesting comments, especially Winston Wrights decision to run it in for 6. Good thing he did. I think his judgement was correct in this matter.

Lack of running game really hurt USD yesterday The Yotes could be the real deal the next few years. All of their skilled people are back. What a great atmosphere. A few drunk Yote fans getting mouthy, but to be expected. Jacks need to take care of business next week.

Returning your skill position players doesn't necessarily equate to being the "real deal". They lose some studs on both sides of the ball just like everyone else does. Keep your eye on the game next week, I think it will tell us a lot about where USD is.
