Would that be fair to the other heavyweight wrestlers? No travel? I would think he would like to get off campus once in a while even if it means a round trip to Fargo. Yup its just an idea.

Nice call Kemo - Shoff wins it 4-3 in the finals. Way to go young future Jackrabbits! Great accomplishment(s)!!! Great day to be a Jackrabbit!!!

              Re: Mike Shoff

Read down the list of past winners - unbelievable company he is keeping. Tom Osborne, Monte Kiffin, Johnny Rodgers, Gerry Gdowski (ex-SDSU offensive coach), Cory Schlesinger, Scott Frost, Ahman Green, Alex Gordon, Danny Woodhead. To the non-Husker fans that list is impressive. I'm trying to temper my enthusiasm for this young man - he has done a lot in High School - I only hope it continues as a Jackrabbit. Go Big! Go Blue! Go Jacks!!!!

He also didn't play offensive line until his senior year....could be a diamond in the rough!!

This guy's potential appears to be off the charts. Those are some impressive awards.

                      Re: Mike Shoff

Austin Sumner said on Sports Web Live today that Shoff was up to 325 lbs already. That is insane considering he is an 18 year old true freshman.

Sounds like the plan is still to redshirt him, however.

Did he play dt in high school ? Cuz honestly I would pull his redshirt and play him and defensive tackle for this year. 6'6 325 with wrestling leverage and what not, thats awesome haha

That's way too tall for a DT.

you can get away with it, and for the most part height regulations for positions arent as important as people make them out to be

Of course you can get away with it. But why would you want to waste a year of eligibility to play a kid at a position that he isn't physically suited for? Those measurements are tailor-made offensive tackle numbers. There's a reason why OL genuinely get shorter as you work your way in.

I hope Sumner was exaggerating by 10-15lbs. 325 is big coming in as a freshman. I know he is a stud wrestler and all, so he probably has really good control on his weight but thats a lot of lbs from the time he wrestled heavyweight at what under 275lbs? I dont know much about wrestling but that would be at least 50lbs since he last wrestled.
