    Re: Is it time?

40 times are good for saying "we've got a burner", but once the pads are on some of the fast guys fall back to the pack. Game speed is A LOT different than a 40 time. AND, a guy that runs a fast 40 time isn't always a player, we all know that.

          Re: Is it time?

There have been plenty of great WRs that had average to bad 40 times (Larry Fitz, Jerry Rice, ect.) but speed certainly doesn't hurt.

Are you saying that Jerry Rice isn't walking through that door?

It gives the players a benchmark for where they are training wise and also allows them a way to set goals. Sure the tests do matter somewhat, but remember Jordan Paula, who is one of the best people I have had the priviledge of meeting, had a rip roaring good 40 time but wasn't as good as Minnet or Duffy with the ball in his hands.

According to TV today, Kool has been talking with coaches about going back to his true position, RB, next year after Minett and Duffy leave. The other WR's on the team are going to have go continue to mature and build cohesiveness with TOB or Sumner if they want to have success in the passing game last year.

in other words they are going to have to get open and catch the balls when they are open other wise it won't matter if Tom Brady is the QB

I thought that was the plan all along.

                        Re: Is it time?

Wondering about what the future holds for jackrabbit football, made me ponder what we can look forward to down the road with the next couple of years just based on our current roster. This is my lame attempt to break down position with knowing very little about the guys.

QB. Obrien has all the potential but is young with a young line and even younger recievers. Sumner to me will be a brad Nelson/Berry passer. just IMO.

WR. We are going to be young and inexperineced a lot next year also. Kool goes back to RB and The current Jr class has yet to provide much promise IMO. however the FR I feel will be solid and we develop to great SR WR because of having to play so much as an under classmen.

RB. Kool will be starting RB next year I feel and Clare should be a solid Sr contributor. I think Zenner to me is the promise of the future for the RB. Next year should be stellar, but just a different look then this year.

TE. WE loose a lot of talent and experince after this year, but we have developed great TEs over the years so I would assume we will be able to continue with that trend. Our younger guys look very promising to step up to fill the void of the graduates.

OL They are going to still be young the next few years, but they will only gain experince and depth. I think they have formed to be a pleasant surprise this year with not many other postitions improving like the line is. I have no reason to question the line the next couple years.

DL I like that we have good players, but would love to see more dominate D lineman. We have had several the last few years, and hope Starr can be, but he will need others to create an entire solid line, not just feature 1 really good lineman and avg everyone else.

LB Should be turning out some great ones if you ask me. We have enough gaining experience and are talented to play as underclassman. I think our LB will be our strength of the D the next few years.

DB I feel will be very solid like they are now. Would like to see a few turn into big play makers like we have had in the past at safety. khoehlmoos I think has that potential. Luxa will be a stud also IMO. Otherwise on coverage we have very athletic and speedy guys who can play better then the coaches allow. I feel many are capiable of playing at the line and not giving 5 or 10 yard cushion to start. I think we could really step up to allow more tight coverage if you ask me.

SP Teams. If Harris can not figure out to be more accurate, I would want Syrovatka to do FG attempts and Harris just focus on trying to pin down kick off attempts. Sawyer will be another great punter after years of solid play from Priddy and....(brain fart), the guy before him. So Sp teams I feel will be solid as long as long as if Harris does not FG kick or gets better accuracy.

Overall, it looks to be like most jackrabbit teams that our OLine will need to kick butt for a solid running game and hope our WR develop into skilled play makers so we can have TOB play better and then Sumner to take the team and kick butt.

D will likely be lead by a solid LB group and effective DBs and Dline will need some to step up to be big time lineman.

Well that is just one guys weak attempt to provide a over view of what his take on the future of jackrabbit football is.

                          Re: Is it time?

If you look at TOB's stats vs conference foes (IL ST, UNI, WIU) and take out the non-conference ones(NEB & Delaware) they aren't that bad. Nebraska has the best secondary in FBS and Delaware has the best in FCS.

                          vs conference foes
                          63-106 - 59% 675 yds (225yd/g) 4 TD 4 INT

The INT are still a little high but 1 came from bouncing off a WR hands and 2 other were forced in last minute drives.

As un fair as it can be, last minute drive TO are the most painful. If its the first pass of the game. Fans will be quick to forget, but if its the last series, its more costly. I don't blame TOB. He had new WRs this year all lacking experience. He had a new young line to get use to. A new QB coach passing game cord. And 5 ranked teams that have been ranked this year.

We need to worry more about our dreadful defense and DB's that continue to play 10 yards off the opponents Wr's. I realize that that is part of our coverage scheme but C'mon- we are making our opponet Wr's look like professionals!!

I agree, we knew the Offense would need time, but it took a long time, but there are strides of improvement. The D. that is one thing that bugs me is we give the same formation every play either run or pass. A few times we had some different looks. Why not play the corners to jam, they were picking us a part because they could find the seams and they were timed perfectly. Why not make them work to get open and throw off the timing issues. set a safety back incase of a bad beat and let the corners have their way first. Its to easy it seems at times passing against us. Also Dline needs to get more pressure on the QB, if the line cant do it, we need to blitz more just so Qbs are not standing in the pocket watching for the right moment. rarely did they look out of place passing, I give that to a solid and talents QB they had, but to soft coverage and lack of pressure by us.
