I know there is a lot out of our control on this, but scheduling has to be better.

I guess the team did not get the point of the 1 game at a time speech turning into 1 play at a time. It did not really make a difference.

I still think this team has no confidence. Goes back to last year and the way they struggled its last 4 games going 1-3. I would like to see the play calling back to the Berry days where there was actually some variety. I know its up the players to execute the plays, but I think there can be done more with the play calling.
I also think the team is lacking confidence. And that is the biggest part.

When you play with confidence, you are making plays...not worrying about screwing up...these are what we look like we're doing out there.

Against Nebraska, the pressure was off, because it didn't matter what we did, we're supposed to get rolled, so just go out there and let it fly.

I wrote that we'd turn it around after the Nebraska game. Gain some confidence and take it with us. We didn't.

We look like a team unsure of itself, good enough to play with people, but not good enough to win games.

        THIS /\

        Delaware #2
Illinois State Getting votes, ranked after beating us
        Nebraska #6 AP/Coaches Poll BCS
        Northern Iowa #15

ISU-RED is the only team we "should've beat". The other teams, if we were honest with ourselves, are better then us at this point in the season, especially at their place(s).
0-4 is tough to take, but 1-3 would be also and 1-3 was probably as good as it was going to get.
SDSU hasn't been doing this FCS team long enough yet to "reload". We are going to have re-building years. This is one of them, I'm afraid.

I will agree with those who question the scheduling. We NEED to be able to pay lower level FCS teams like a Morgan St. team to come in here without a return trip. Your bye-week should not be your 1st week and definitely not two years straight...that's on the Athletic Dept/coaching staff. IMO.

        Go Jacks!!

You need to sprinkle a couple punts, INT's and fumbles into your play sequence there...

Don't forget Delay of game, and illegal motion, illegal formation penalties either

Dropped pass fits some where in there too. also missed FGs and missed tackels.

But seriously, catch a few and no drops, make a few FGs that were missed clean up a few penalties, and make tackels and this team looks much different. I know it sounds like a lot, but its not a little focus by every cleans up the problems and even with the record, it can truely fix a lot and add much needed confidence.

I feel TOB just thinks, maybe if I throw it harder, I will get it to them and something lucky will happen. It is like he is not taking a very calculated approach to his passes. Reminds me of Kardoes when he took over, Nelson had accuracy and touch and then watching Kardoes was tough to see him pass, but he figured it out and his arm helped to win several games with big plays. Thats what I am hoping to see, Berry had great touch and accuracy passes, Crawford had a lot but not the strength. TOB has a canon, but no way to control it. Hope he goes the way of Kardoes and figures out how to use the arm but relize you do not need to throw a bullet every pass.
I feel that the receivers are a big part of the problem. Didn't 3 or 4 receivers graduate last year? I watched most of those games and I could of made some of those passes, that is how open they were getting. I watch this year and they just aren't getting open, Tyrel Kool is the biggest threat but it is his first year playing WR, Tiefentaller I think will be good but is a red shirt freshman who played QB his last year in hs. Rollin is a good possession type of receiver but you need a deep threat to open up the 7-12 yard pass plays.

The one thing I am happy about NOT seeing is a Tim Brewster-esqu quote of:

At least our fan base and coaches knows better.

If I have said it once I've said it 100 times put Rollin in the slot where he can use his big body and put Tiefenthaler opposite of Kool This isn't hard to figure out.. Why in the hell do people test 40's??? Look at what UNI did to us- took advantage of their speed to win the game. Maybe SDSU should do the same!!

At least still we still drink um....anyways.

I think our WRs need to learn to break away from coverage in thier route running. Maybe would like to see TOB with a 7 step drop to get the WRs a little time and get him back far enough from pressure that he will hopefully feel more comfortable to step in the throw and not throw late. Maybe could help the time issue also. Our O line is doing very well on things considered, the passing problems is no fault of the Oline.

We don't test in the fall but we test in the winter when they are doing winter workouts!

                            I don't understand this.

By testing in winter, couldn't someone get faster before fall camp, and theoretically be the better choice for playing time, all things being equal?

Or is the idea that players are going to be at their fastest during off months?

It seems to me that either you wouldn't test at all, or you would want to test right before the season starts.

Does anybody know the theory behind testing in the winter?

Who the best player is will come out on the field not in testing.

I believe that the testing done in the fall are weightlifting tests plus 100-110 yard dashes to check for aerobic conditioning... It is my belief that they run 40's multiple times during their winter conditioning... I do not know the theory behind this..
