I have a feeling SDSU's East Bleachers are probably grandfathered in. I have a feeling they will get upgraded soon because I'm not sure how the fire chief or their insurance guy ok's them every year.
SDSU like the rest of South Dakota state government is self-insured. No insurance guy.

I suppose there may be some city ordinance or state law covering bleacher safety. If not, the fire chief has no jurisdiction, either.

There is a plan to replace the east bleachers. It's called "the new stadium."

And if you think bloggers make up sources, just take a look at bulletin board posters. (There are reporters too who make up sources. It occurs with depressing regularity--sometimes they're actually called on it, but sometimes not. There's a reason the phrase "too good to check" is something of a term of art in journalism.)

Vandrovec is a first-class sports journalist. I continually wonder how long it will be before a larger media outlet than the Argus-Leader comes calling (assuming that already hasn't happened).

What exactly does the fire chief have to do with open bleachers?

The problem is NO SOURCE. NO PROOF. NO EVIDENCE.

Terry is a professional. He's not some hack posting garbage under an anonymous name on the internet.

This has nothing to do with access, and EVERYTHING to do with professional conduct.

Good grief man, you're in college! This is the best chance you'll ever get to LEARN HOW TO THINK.

This is sloppy thinking. How can you post stuff like this without THINKING IT THROUGH?

Consider what you're saying: 'I think that Meadows was fired. My evidence consists of this: TV did not say Meadows was fired, which is exactly what he would say if Meadows WAS fired and the school wanted to keep it on the DL.'

You won't find an athletic department employee though, but you can find sources if you try just a little. I did without even trying. I'd mention them, but they don't need the repercussions. Imagine if TV actually did reporting about football instaid of spewing the info the Athletic Department and football coaches feeds him. Football is just not his sport. Its like the 1960's in Brookings in regards to actual football reporting if the 60's had blogging. Sorry for the negativity on this subject, but thankfully we have this forum to get other opinions and information. And now the Argus has the gall to charge for on line reporting. C'mon. This is just my opinion, so go ahead and rip me if you want. Also, let me know how much worse it was in the past. I know all that. But the program is improving, I hope the media coverage can keep up.

It seems the consensus it is better off for both SDSU and Coach Meadows with the change. He's put in his dues and it is good to see him rewarded. Joeboo is right tho. The move was encouraged and I'm not saying Stig instituted it. I wish Coach Meadows all the best.

The point I'm trying to make is that the AD and President are striving to do their best to make SDSU and especially SDSU football better every year. I heard them speak and personally have talked to both of them. I totally respect what they are doing. Fans should be excited to have such excellant leaders. Their vision is outstanding. It is extremely exciting. The direction the program is going is tremendous.

I am extremely postive and happy with the direction of the football program and the efforts for the Stadium.

The east bleachers have to be upgraded eventually anyway. What is the NCAA rules regarding this? I know Illinois States east bleachers are open and higher than Coughlins. Is this per NCAA rules? I thought closed bleachers were required but could be mistaken.

I'm going to have to disappoint you here, Zoo.

Carry on, all. Do try to stick to the topic, though. I've got some other windmills to go tilt after.

Must be the time of year. It seems like a few threads that are posted in veer off in weird directions.

    That should tell you something.

He can't just spend 3 hours every day at Cook's Kitchen and Cubby's and print coffee shop talk in the Argus. His standards and job requirements are a little stricter than that. To insinuate that he is doing a subpar job or covering things up somehow is dumb and misinformed.

We (SDSU fans) are EXTREMELY lucky to have him.

Shot, Terry is a Journalist, which means he has to follow specific ethical guidelines as established not only by his employer (which is Gannett, NOT South Dakota State University), but also the Society of Professional Journalists. But then if you had bothered to do any RESEARCH, instead of slinging mud like usual, you would have realized that. See, that makes him a professional, where so many so-called "journalists" on the web are nothing more than muckraking hacks.

If you think you can do a better job than Mr. Vandrovec, start your own damn paper.

Just where exactly do you get off?

You come here, anonymously, and talk about unspecific things that you heard from anonymous sources, and you have the gall to insinuate that Vandrovec has been less than professional in how he's carried out his assignments?

This is the worst form of character assassination, and let's not mince words, that's exactly what you're doing here. You're questioning Vandrovec's commitment to his profession, and essentially accusing him of cheating the public of information and cheating his employers out of an honest day's work.

And you're doing this behind an anonymous nickname, referencing anonymous individuals with unspecific allegations. That takes a combination of arrogance and self-delusion that I find incredible.

Oh, and then there's your use of weasel words, so you can argue that 'I've got nothing against TV, I just think he's lazy, and spews the company line. But I've got nothing against him, only that he doesn't do his job, and is either not good at it or has other darker motives.'

We'll waive, for the moment, the Gannett Company's rule against using anonymous sources; Vandrovec has never hinted that pressure was being brought to bear on Stig, Meadows, or Sell. And that's despite him writing more about the FB program than anyone else on the planet. Maybe YOU should be the SDSU beat writer for the Argus. Maybe then YOU will be able to do a better job 'getting to the bottom of things' and 'not spewing the company line.' Yeah. That sounds like a great idea. Just as long as you, personally, don't have to take responsibility for anything you write ever. Because that seems to be your goal here.

Not only does Vandrovec write more about the FB program than anyone else, he has better access to the athletic department than you do, and is privy to far more information than he can publish. If you think that he's whitewashing the FB program in order to --- actually, do you have any allegation to make against Vandrovec besides incompetence? What's the quid pro quo for him burying bad news about SDSU? Access? Really?

If this is all a bit hard to follow, it's because your pile of garbage has made me so irritated I can't see straight. And let's be honest about that too. Your post was garbage. It's the kind of crap that a good college education should have trained you not to write. Unsubstantiated, unmitigated crap, tossed from the anonymity of the internet onto a guy who signs his name on what he writes and makes himself available for questions about it.

This kind of stuff makes me sick.

    And this is just stupid.

Thanks zoo, you apparently understood Shoot 5533 post better than I did. The whole mess did not make any sense. The references to the yellow bleachers and reporting in the 1960's made me want to think HHHHUUUUHHHHHH!!!!
To my knowledge the NCAA has not endorsed any rules about open or closed bleachers. They have never gotten that detailed. The shots towards TV went over my head, but you did a great job in defending TV, a great reporter and as Billy Cunningham says his show on WNAX on Sunday nights, YOU ARE A GREAT AMERICAN (That is provided you agree with his political point of view and are not a liberal like myself).

Just as TV mentioned that something could be falling through, there could be something happening that might be huge in a good way. Possibly something to get both the indoor practice facility and the stadium going. 100% specualtion on my part. Bottom line is until we know we don't know.
