If you don't like what's proposed or completed so far rather than just bitch about it on this forum maybe you can make a donation. A lot of people who come on this forum to complain about what's wrong about the facilities and players etc are the same ones who don't step up and attend games, buy season tickets or make a contribution.

I'm sorry; I guess I didn't know that setting high standards meant I was "bitching." Do I need to send you my receipts from the Foundation proving my support now too? Do you have access to data that shows who posts and subsequently attends games and donates to the department? I by no means think I have all the answers to problems in the Athletic Department, and I don't make such claims. I simply stated that I felt the team and fans attending the game deserved more. I didn't go off on some tangent proposing drastic ideas that are ridiculous. Did I complain about the lack of landscaping and all the mud and dirt? Did I complain about how long it has taken to get the field completed? No. I don't think the new baseball field is deserving of aluminum bleachers. That’s it.

The number one priority would be 3-4 indoor courts. Right now the only access for practice from mid october to April is ONE court at Larson mfg. for an hour on Tuesday morning and Thursday morning. Its rediculous. You cant have a competitive team with that type of situation. You cant recruit with that. Imagine having a basketball program with two one hour practices a week!

I can guarantee that 95% of the things that have happened at the baseball field have been from supporters that dont even follow baseball. If you want something other than bleachers for the next several years, you better get somone to pony up and help. If things are going to happen, people need to get involved and help raise the money. It does nothing to sit on this forum and bitch. If you want things to get better, get involved. If you sit on here and bitch, I will call you out every chance I get. I have nothing to lose!

I still haven't figured out who is bitching. I'm hoping for better than aluminum bleachers, just like others are hoping for better recruits, more wins, sunshine, etc. I would expect others to do the same. Look it up, that is not bitching. I have not said that I will not support Athletics without a grandstand. I simply said the team and fans, the field for that matter, deserves better. I also have nothing to lose. To me this is a "discussion forum." If you feel like you need to call people out for having high expectations, go ahead. Perhaps you need to read the article about bumpkins that someone linked in another thread. I prefer to not be one of them.

                Re: New Baseball Field?

In my conversations with Oien and the rest of the Athletic Dept. administration, they are well aware of the facilities issues involved with trying to field 21 athletic teams, especially with the resources they have to do it.

They do have a facilities plan. It's probably a 10 to 15 year plan, but they are executing it, as resources allow. If you ask them, they'll even show the plan to you. It's probably five years old now.

The planned fieldhouse addresses the practice facility issues for many sports (football, baseball, tennis, track & field, off the top of my head) and is the next major project after the Dykhouse Center and the baseball and softball stadiums. Coughlin-Alumni Stadium renovation is right there, too.

You can argue with the prioritization, but there is a facilities improvement plan in place and it is being implemented. The more money that comes in, the faster it gets implemented.

If you're angry with the prioritization, that's one thing, but if you're angry that there isn't enough money to finish the on-campus baseball and softball stadiums, build the Dykhouse Center, build the fieldhouse, renovate CAS, and build an outdoor track facility while at the same time catching up on Frost Arena maintenance and expanding the scholarship endowment to have enough money to bring in D-I athletes to play in all of those facilities, then you may need to adjust your expectations a bit and/or, as others have said, start writing checks yourself and encourage everybody around you to do so as well.

"They" won't build all those new facilities and fund all of those scholarships. "We" will.
                "I think we'll be OK"

Why is this so hard to understand? If you are about to walk across Frost to receive a degree and owe 20 to 60k in student loans, I can see why you might not be too crazy about writing a check to SDSU Foundation for any reason or purpose. First things first in our individual lives and I get that part. However, if you got those loans paid off and are making a good living, you should be looking for ways to pay SDSU back as the employment opportunity doors that have been opened would not have happened with out that degree from SDSU. If you are a big sports fan of SDSU, you will know what to do. Even if you are a non-grad but decide to be generous with financial gifts, I can guarentee, that people on campus and in the foundation will quickly learn your name and very quickly consider you a friend of SDSU.

I agree with Filbert's notation of an excessive use of the pronoun "they". If you feel part of this message board, it is indeed "we" application. Whether its a baseball or equsetrian facility, its we and not they who get it done.

For those who file single and have cash to burn, SDSU giving helps you out on April 15th if you got a substantial mortgage interest, pay real estate taxes and file the long form.

It'll be interesting to see how much the $$$ D-1A football games will help out too..

Well it certainly helps in budgeting for annual expenses...but consider these two scenarios:

                        1) The additional 27 scholarships in football (with full rides currently about $12,500 per athlete) will total $340,000 this fall, more than the guarantee from Iowa State will give us for that game (and we will, of course, have the expenses associated with an away game taken out of that guarantee).

                        2) Or another way to look at it is: the rise in tuition and additional food costs, etc. will probably raise the Athletic Department's bill for scholarships about $150,000 for 2008-2009, which would swallow up a lot of the "profit" from that one game.

Either way, the message is that the guarantee game will certainly help, but it is no panacea.

Good points. Think of where we'd be with those added expenses and NO guarantee. That would be even worse.

Absolutely, RT, I'm sure not demeaning the importance of the income. That's why we pushed hard to get to the scholarship level that would allow us to play the guarantee games...and secure that kind of income for every season. Certainly eases the load on raising that much money from giving sources. But it isn't like we are going to be flush with cash. Since we went in the red in this year's budget, it will be a boost in helping to get back on even keel.

What additional touches will be added to the ballpark this spring. Assume we will still have temporary bleachers?
