I didn't see any when I drove by again today but I did notice that the roof on the dugout on the first base side is on, as well as the bullpens on the third base side, didn't see about the first base side. I'm not sure if there was a batting cage there before but there is now. The hitters eye hasn't changed so hopefully they get that done this weekend so they can play there on Monday.

Drove by Saturday night before going to the Wrestling Banquet, and they were hauling in portable bleachers. The roofs were done on both dugouts, but there is some work left to do on them and around them.

          Re: New Baseball Field?

I just wanted to say that the field looks great. My understanding the landscaping is supposed to be done this summer. This should take care of the mud and dirt piles left during the excavating.

As I watch the game I started thinking. I believe on the radio broadcast Tyler referenced the dream/ goal is to have 1000 chair back seats at Erv Heather Field. I was also told the seats will be elevated to be above the retaining wall/ brick wall behind the back stop. I am not sure how many seats they are looking to have at the Softball field? My guess is 500-1000 chair back seats. So I will lay out this question: Would it be possible/ probable to use removable seating with chair backs the baseball and softball fields? And in turn, use the same chair back seating for end zone seating at CAF? Of course, would not want to make the set up look tacky or cheap. But the bottom line is making the seating "multi-use" and thus saving money.

I after a quick Google search. I found a website from a company that looks they may have the designs to make this idea a real possibility.

http://www.sitonthis.com I believe the company is called Seating Solutions

Some of the designs are for outdoor use with chair back seating looked to be very professional. Thinking both short and long term, these bleacher systems could assist with over flow crowds and could be rented by others for special events too. Imagine hosting the NCAA baseball/ softball regional with opportunity to increase seating capacity; renting them out for parades, seating for other events during the summer. I know SDSU, BHS and the City of Brookings have great joint use agreements on facilities. So why not take this concept and see if it could work with internal facilities?

“thebluehatman” with your construction management expertise, do think this idea has merit?

It is definately feasible if the ground around the diamond is leveled out. Definately looks like it could be somewhat affordable. Just two of these sections http://www.sitonthis.com/specials/index.html could provide over 300 seats. Hopefully something like this is being thought of already. Renting these out would be possible.

But then again our resident experts tlk23 and Jack B. Nimble would say otherwise about this idea.

I guess I would expect (and hope for) something better than some aluminum bleachers for what has turned out to be a wonderful playing field.

I'm not sure gold plated bleachers are a feasible option. Considering that the baseball program is bringing in money, aluminum bleachers are more presentable than rickity wooden bleachers, like the football stadium has.

Who said anything about gold plated???????? Unreal. Why not just give them an aluminum bench from the HPER lockerroom and forget about the dugouts? I stated what I did for the simple and same reason that they didn't put chain link fencing all the way around the field...IT LOOKS TACKY! I feel the fans (and the team) deserve better. You don't need to tell me about revenue making sports. We all get it.

The plan is for chairbacks, not bleachers. They are still trying to raise the funds to enable them to build a grandstand. Hopefully next year.

A grandstand sounds like a great idea and would compliment the effort that was put into the making of the field and the product Coach Christianson puts onto it as well.

The website designs are lot more than just aluminum bleacher seating. The ones I am refering to would be similar to the lower level seating and baseline seating at Frost arena. Please take a minute and look at some of the pictures they utilize. Their is nothing tacky about these designs in my opinion. Ideally, a big permanent structure with chairback seating/ pressbox, luxury boxes/ concession/ restrooms etc. is the ultimate goal, but nothing like that is going to happen for many years down the road. Both facilities (baseball and softball) are going to be pieced together when money comes available. I know the development staff is working on this, but my guess it is taking a back seat to the other athletic needs for SDSU. Locally, I know their are groups that can assist in small ways, but I do not believe the a facility plan has been released to the public for baseball or softball. I am very active in baseball in Brookings and no formal "ask" has been made to our group or to us as individuals.

Considering the amount of home events we would have and the interest in these two sports don't you guys think that having an indoor practice facility would be a much larger advance for these sports (and baseball/fastpitch) than an actual outdoor, on campus venue?

The "pics" you refer to have long been thrown out the window(just as the North Endzone project and fieldhouse designs were.) I agree, the design calls for and deserves better than aluminum bleachers. My post was directed more at the fact that blue hat said that aluminum would be nice and also feasible.
