well... apparently nobody is too interested in baseball

did anyone know that 2024 Summit POY and NOY Cael Frost left during the offseason and now plays for the Huskers. hopefully things have heated up for him. last time I checked (it has been a while) he was not off to a good start and appeared to not be an every game starter-. just curious if anyone even knew he left? feels like football and basketball portal news get ALL the news. if a POY can leave without anyone knowing, we would have to say that is all the evidence needed to prove that is a fact

I was thinking and hoping that it would be the Jacks taking advantage of the portal. telling pitchers look at our ability to put runs on the board, if you can manage to actually make batters hit their way on and not give up a silly amount of HR you should have a great chance to win a lot of games here

to this point, that does not seem to be the case. the roster is extremely young. they do show signs of being able to score runs. unfortunately, there have been too many games where we remain unable to throw strikes and unable to keep the opposition from scoring far too many runs

we opened conference play over the weekend, visiting UNC

lets go with the good and the bad

the bad first- we split the opening day DH. we were leading going into the 9th in the Sunday afternoon rubber game with a chance to win the opening series of conference play. but (and a very big BUT it is) in the bottom of the 9th we allowed 7 runs to give up a SIX run lead with only 3 outs to go

I would have to go back to the play by play in more detail than I think i can manage to stand, but I believe we walked FIVE batters and hit another one. that is ONLY the 9th inning I am talking about not the game

regarding the bad, I will leave it at that

    The Good
we were 3 outs away, with a 6 run lead, from winning the opening series of conference play. the HUGE majority of the regular position players are Freshman and Sophs

there appears to be some talent and ability here!! hopefully they can continue to grow and progress and possibly find a way to sneak themselves into the season end SLT

I watched the ninth inning Sunday and it wasn't pretty. The pitching was terrible but it wasn't all their fault. The center fielder dropped a can of corn fly ball, and lost another out when the left fielder cut in front of him and a sure out fell in. It was deja Vu all over again as we had a similar game against Northern Colorado a year ago.

While I’ve heard the phrase many times, I was suddenly struck by the need to find where it came from.

wow, i did not see it. strange that the box score has the Jacks for zero errors. any reason they would not call the drop an error? or the UNC scorekeeper just wants to pad their hit numbers?

on another note, it looks like Frost is coming around. hit numbers and power numbers are still lagging. but he is one off the team lead in BBs and his OBP is up to .390. ironically, it appears he might be in for a similar year to what he experienced last year. they have 5 guys with OBP over .360 but I think their record is below .500, would indicate a lack of pitching

LOL...I did the same thing. Had heard the "can of corn" phrase but looked it up. Not sure I'll work that into a sentence yet.
