excellent weekend for the Jacks!! take 2 of 3 and win both the weekend and the season series. coming into the weekend, the Jacks recently lose Lusky, easily the best hitter in the league, and UNO just took their last series from UST, so they were coming in hot!!
one concern, Duerr has been our best starter and he has got knocked around a bit in his last two outings
also, we did see what still has been too much of a trend, giving up a BIG inning. UNO scored 11, yes ELEVEN, runs in the 6th yesterday
BUT!!! if you take away that one inning from yesterday, the one 11 run inning, UNO scored 9 runs in all the rest of the weekend combined
so outside of one inning, Jacks pitchers held UNO to 3 runs per game. that is excellent pitching. now hopefully we can eliminate the one ugly innings!!
and what about the offense without Lusky? oh well they scored 32 runs in 25 (sundays game was shortened to 7 via run rule) innings
give up 3 runs a game and score 10+ runs a game. usually that will get the job done. lets see what happens next weekend vs ORU

great job last week taking the final two games and the series. we have now tied NDSU and UNC for the season series
BUMMER- heard on the softball broadcast that we have indeed lost Luskey for the year. UNBELIEIVABLE!!!! I dont recall season ending leg injuries being at all common in baseball, but in 2 of the last 3 seasons, the Jacks have lost the runaway best offensive player in the league to a season ending leg injury
UNO starting tomorrow. if we take one we tie the season series. take two and we win the season series. it would be great to take 2 of 3 since we are currently tied with them in the L column

tough start to the weekend. won 3 of 4 from the Bison last week so should have had good momentum coming in, but lose after leading most of the game and our top reliever gives up the winning runs
unless I am seeing wrong, Luskey did not play. anyone know anything?
we should probably figure that if we dont have the league HR and slugging leader AND our top reliever gives up 3 runs, we aint winning many games.
hope Luskey is ok and we can still come back and take the series!!

on another note, it looks like Frost is coming around. hit numbers and power numbers are still lagging. but he is one off the team lead in BBs and his OBP is up to .390. ironically, it appears he might be in for a similar year to what he experienced last year. they have 5 guys with OBP over .360 but I think their record is below .500, would indicate a lack of pitching

The center fielder dropped a can of corn fly ball, and lost another out when the left fielder cut in front of him and a sure out fell in. It was deja Vu all over again as we had a similar game against Northern Colorado a year ago.

did anyone know that 2024 Summit POY and NOY Cael Frost left during the offseason and now plays for the Huskers. hopefully things have heated up for him. last time I checked (it has been a while) he was not off to a good start and appeared to not be an every game starter-. just curious if anyone even knew he left? feels like football and basketball portal news get ALL the news. if a POY can leave without anyone knowing, we would have to say that is all the evidence needed to prove that is a fact
I was thinking and hoping that it would be the Jacks taking advantage of the portal. telling pitchers look at our ability to put runs on the board, if you can manage to actually make batters hit their way on and not give up a silly amount of HR you should have a great chance to win a lot of games here
to this point, that does not seem to be the case. the roster is extremely young. they do show signs of being able to score runs. unfortunately, there have been too many games where we remain unable to throw strikes and unable to keep the opposition from scoring far too many runs
we opened conference play over the weekend, visiting UNC
lets go with the good and the bad
the bad first- we split the opening day DH. we were leading going into the 9th in the Sunday afternoon rubber game with a chance to win the opening series of conference play. but (and a very big BUT it is) in the bottom of the 9th we allowed 7 runs to give up a SIX run lead with only 3 outs to go
I would have to go back to the play by play in more detail than I think i can manage to stand, but I believe we walked FIVE batters and hit another one. that is ONLY the 9th inning I am talking about not the game
regarding the bad, I will leave it at that
The Good
we were 3 outs away, with a 6 run lead, from winning the opening series of conference play. the HUGE majority of the regular position players are Freshman and Sophs
there appears to be some talent and ability here!! hopefully they can continue to grow and progress and possibly find a way to sneak themselves into the season end SLT
