  • UND misses Summit window

Hammersmith on the Bison's board posted the following link to a WDAZ story on UND missed the scheduling window to join the Summit League for 2011-2012 (when USD joins). Looks like the earliest UND can get in (assuming it is accepted for membership) is now 2012-2013. The holdup is resolution of the name issue.

Ten teams is a good number anyway, not sure we need eleven.

I would agree. Actually, UND may have missed the Summit window completely, with Centenary leaving and USD coming in. The only way that UND gets in IMO is if they come in with another school (or somebody elses leaves...SUU??) and the league goes to 12. That is certainly possible, but the list of colleges that would fit in is limited. Would expect it to be an eastern team and the league might well split into east and west divisions if that happened. How stupid are those people up in Grand Forks???

In 2011-12, assume travel partners will become NDSU/SDSU, USD/UMKC, ORU/SUU.

I found it interesting that the article said that other schools want in to the Summit League. I wonder who those schools are?

Utah Valley, Texas Pan American and the rest of this year's USD schedule. SDSU getting in was a big big deal. All the nay sayers might have more of an arguement today, if had failed to get in the Summit.

I think UND is a great school and a fit for the Summit, but at the same time, I sure do not feel any sympathy for the arrogrant people who want to hang onto the logo.

Good point. To answer my own question, I guess everybody in the Great West would want in.

UTPA needs to keep working the Southland conference. I think that that conference will get shook up with UT-San Antonio's plan to start FB, and jump to FBS (Sunbelt?), but may be limited if Tx St beats UTSA to Sunbelt.

UVU would be a commitment to keep SUU in the Summit, and I'm not certain if that's a wise choice.

U New Orleans is dropping out of the Sunbelt following this year, and to D-III (a year ahead of Centenary).

Chicago St has to be interested.

                Re: UND misses Summit window

While I don't subscribe to the idea of a upcoming massive shake-up that will result in a domino effect among all conferences, I do wonder if the Summit is playing it safe and waiting until things become clearer. If the Pac-10 does decide to expand, it could start a series of events that allows SUU to get into the Big Sky. If the Big Ten expands and the Big East breaks up, the Horizon could end up grabbing Oakland, IUPUI, or both. Until we have a better idea of how things are going to shake out, I don't mind the Summit taking its time. If SUU stays in the Summit, or Denver falls in our lap, then UVU would be a good choice. If SUU ends up in the Big Sky and Denver in the WAC, then UVU is a terrible choice. The same type of arguments can be made for Chicago State, Houston Baptist or UND. Who knows, Saint Louis University might even fall in our lap if things shake up bad enough.

                  Re: UND misses Summit window

Does UND really like being in DI Indipendent purgatory? It isn't like this problem showed up last month. I would have hoped that they would have taken care of this issue by now. Plus I don't get thier bashing of the Summit and conspiracy theories going on up there. Do they really think they are too good for the Summit League? Big Sky isn't taking them. Horizon isn't taking them. MVC isn't taking them. That pretty much leaves the Summit. Granted it isn't the best mid-major conference but it is a serious step up from the Great West/Transitional University Conference.

During the SDSU-USD game, they interviewed the Summit League commish. He made a reference to UNO being interested in joining and moving up a division. Guess I didn't see that one coming.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

You didn't see it coming? I sure as heck did...along with Augie, Mankato, Duluth, St. Cloud. Heck before you know it the NCC will be one big happy family again(heck might as well just change the name back and get out of the MVFC too), as soon as ORU, Oakland, IUPUI, IPFW, Southern Utah, UMKC and WIU bale.

Makes me want to puke my guts out...but then again...that's just me, I'm sure I'm in the minority.

Mr. Mark Burgers, if you are ever the comissioner of the MVC or AD of Creighton, will you please make room for us in the next 10 years??

                      Go Jacks!!

And that is why some people want to see Divison I Basketball spit into IA and IAA.

Thankfully the NCAA slammed the door on schools moving up, now you have to have a conference invite in hand before moving up. I don't see NDSU voting to add any of these schools outside of UNO.

I have heard that UNO is making the big jump in hockey, so no so surprising from that perspective that they would consider the jump in all sports.
