    Re: UND misses Summit window

What would be even MORE ironic, would be if the Summit let someone in BEFORE UND and they were left on the outside looking in. I know it makes sense to add them, but it would be poetic justice if they were left out - better yet, forever members of the Great West!

Interesting remark about UALR from today's Argus:

      http://www.argusleader.com/article/2...21/1002/sports

Peterson said that the Trojans have had talks with the conference about potential membership given that the Sun Belt has toyed with the idea of wanting every member to field a football team, something UALR lacks.

I would love to bring in UALR and I'm sure ORU would agree.

Who knows if it would happen but the Sun Belt could potentially be down to just UALR as a non-football member and there is a long line of FCS schools that want into the Sun Belt.

of course, they'd have to go FBS

Multiple Southland schools are looking to make that switch to FBS.

Didn't Texas State already announce they intend to go FBS? Or are they studying it?

If Texas State goes FBS, that may nudge UALR into the Summit.

UALR has a pretty good WBB program and a pretty lousy MBB program.

I know they're not exactly in Douple's footprint, but I still wouldn't mind seeing Denver added . . . if the Pioneers and UALR come over from the Sun Belt and the League goes to 12 (and freezes out UND) I'd actually be pretty much OK with that.

Then, when/if Southern Utah finally goes to the Big Sky, at that point, the League could maybe add the Flickertails (or whatever they'll be calling themselves by then).

why isn't the conference going after Denver? Its a metro-hub, has a big airport, has a good but not great mens basketball team, I don't know how their womens team is, pretty nice facilities.... Is it that they don't support enough of the other sports?

Because they are not in the geographical area that the Summit wants to be in. Douple said they want to stay in the area of Detroit to Tulsa to the Dakotas.

Students and school have voted to make the jump to FBS, just expanded their stadium to the 18K range. UT-SA and UT- Arlington have voted to create football teams, and UT-SA have stated that they're planning to go straight to FBS. In fact, one of the debates within the Southland is whether to schedule UT-SA FB while they ramp up, or leave them independent.

If Denver approached the Summit, I'm going to guess they'd get more of a hearing than Texas-Pan Am, Houston Baptist, Utah Valley, NJIT, etc.

Of the four schools mentioned I would agree, though I also think it is very doubtful DU would be interested in Summit membership unless they were desperate. They have always wanted into the WCC who have said they are not interested in expanding. Of course with Seattle moving back to D1 you have to wonder if there is a chance that the WCC add two teams to get to 10 giving Denver a shot. After reading the comments in the Argus I have to believe UALR may become part of the Summit. ORU would be happy and the reality is that UALR really does fit the footprint.

I don't think the WCC will take either Seattle or Denver.

Same here. From I've read and heard, it's harder to get into the WCC than it is to join the Pac-10 where all 10 schools have to agree. Besides Gonzaga has the WCC by the you-know-what anyway.

Only reason why Seattle moved up was that they assumed that the WCC would be waiting for them with an invitation to join. WRONG!!!!

                                Just being blunt but PG-rated.
