No reason for a team like USD to play a NAIA program. They should be playing top-tier mid major programs or go on the road and play a P5 school.
So now you are an expert in scheduling.

It's been said that women's scheduling is easier for women's teams compared to men's.

Maybe USD couldn't find anyone willing to go to Verm (understandable) and they didn't want to have another road game so they scheduled DWU because they have ties to them. Who knows what the actual reasoning is.

Why do I care? Well if you want to get this league into a 2 bid league these types of games can't happen especially with the top teams.

Do you realize how much revenue a home women's game generates for the USD athletic department?*

                Actually,non-D1 games don't affect RPI.

No, just my attempt at humor. Some take this RPI business too serious and I was having a little fun. No offense intended towards SanSouthDakState. I am sure women's bb is very likely easier than most sports.

I think the issue with getting this league two bids goes further than just RPI, IMO.

The other teams in the conference really haven't made strides to improve their teams. The teams have to be better before they start scheduling better. Most of the league has either stayed the same or gotten worse. I assumed that some of them would have tried to catch up, but it doesn't seem to be a priority.

Agreed. To consistently get two bids we need the league as a whole to improve. Doesn't matter if a team schedules some tough games. They have to win some or most of them.

At this point to get two bids one team has to dominate their schedule and get upset in the conference finals possibly semis. Right now if we win out OOC and dominate the Summit schedule with say only 1 loss we are in line for an at large. The margin for error is very small.

From an observation standpoint for the women's teams, the Summit seems right in line with the other conferences, apart from the P-5. You have your top two, three teams (a large conference might have 4) that go out and beat teams from other conferences. You have your middle of the pack who win some/lose some, depending on the match up. Then you have the botom, every conference has these too. Yet some conferences receive multiple invites. Why? It's my contention that these teams schedule tough games and go out, and through their own initiative, put together the type of resume the selection committee is looking for.

The NCAA wants the cream of the crop for their premiere event,it's their job to fill all the slots with the top teams out there. Some try to deceive,by scheduling cup cakes and sporting a gaudy win/loss record, but these aren't really taken too seriously.Go out and play the best, that's how the selection committee can better evaluate whether or not you should justly receive an invitation, and fortifies the belief in their mind you deserve it.You build up the reputation for being a NCAA caliber tournament team that way, year in and year out.You get better, you get tougher to beat when you are used to playing with the best.

If you have the talent, you don't want it to be wasted,if you can prevent it. AJ and the coaching staff do a marvelous job in my opinion scheduling. Just look at where we sit right now, very, very ,good. Perfect at matching talent on hand with scheduling ambitiously to get these talented players the recognition they deserve. We are going in the right direction,I'm happy.

It all boils down to,the weaker the conference, the more you have to do on your own. Some weak power 5 teams get in on name recognition from their conference alone, sporting lots of losses. They usually are eliminated about as fast as a good mid-major with a 16,15,14 or 13 seed ,fairly quickly, except they are seeded much higher naturally, and should have a less potent opponent to deal with, first round anyway. Some things never change.

You are right they have to have the talent to schedule tougher, otherwise the embarrassing blowouts are just as damaging to the conference image as would be just scheduling what matches your talent, and much more noticeable (everyone scans the scores of the games). The coaches know how ambitious they can be with the talent they have .
