Re: Becky Francis "retires" at Oakland (update: "fired for cause&quot

Sorry for blowing the thread. It actually made me laugh at my rant. The sarcastic nature rubbed me the wrong and I just couldn't deal with it. A little alcohol, a little boredom and irritation. I'll admit, I was wrong to go on a rant like that. Proceed.

This is the smartest thing you've said in this thread. None of us has any idea why she was fired.

What we have is a bunch of former players and transfers complaining about the tactics of a strong-willed, intimidating, micro-managing coach. Shocking, who could have predicted that? Let's just take their word for gospel truth and crucify the woman.

Maybe if I bold and underline you will read beyond the first line. This EXACT thing happened with the Oakland men's basketball team. Before and after pictures were taken, used as motivation, and shown on a cable game cast. Not shared with teammates, shown to the general public. Did Kampe get fired?

For the record, I'm not condoning the actions of Francis if true. It sounds like she may have gone over the top, but I have no doubt in my mind these things happen at lots of colleges. I'm just saying she isn't evil and doesn't deserve the Paterno treatment unless something more sinister comes to light.

I also find it EXTREMELY interesting that the Oakland investigation began in April. Rutgers fired Mike Rice April 3. Coincidence?

Think football. Let the folks in Rochester Mi. figure it out. We can't do it out on the prairie, but then that makes it sound like I am speaking of Lake Wobegon. Sometimes, I think I listening to the news from Lake Wobegan. Way to serious!!!!!

Could be, we don't have precise answers to this question either. Like I said, let the movers and shakers in Rochester figure it out. All I know is that GREED IS GOOD.

I'm not going to say that before/progress pics are or are not out of the ordinary, because, frankly, I have no idea. I could see value in pics in a constructive sense. It wouldn't surprise or shock me if I found out that the strength & conditioning staff were doing so in a professional capacity and in a one-on-one, not a team setting.
The men's photos were aired during the broadcast of the SDSU/Oakland men's game? Not exactly a one-on-one setting.

Do you think what someone's body looks like determines whether or not they are in shape? Some people are just big and can be in great shape. I'm thin and look in shape but I can barely run a 5k. But please, go on. Maybe try to mention how sensitive people are today and make a reference to the "good 'ol days."
If you can run a 5k at all, yes, you are in better shape than the vast majority of the population.

If you are skinny, yes, you are probably in better shape than a vast majority of the population.

If you don't believe me, take a peek at the average shopper next time you are in the mall.

Or visit Walmart in early evening, many with waist lines exceeding expectations pushing carts loaded with processed foods such as taco chips, wieners, and all that salty stuff that is not good for yourself. Makes me want to go on a diet. We have strange poverty lifestyle.

I wasn't speaking of what was going on at Oakland, I was speaking, theoretically, of what would go on at a properly managed department.

I wonder how many people would tolerate a bunch of over weight basketball players on the schools basketball teams, when they start to lose games ?How many would blame the Coach?Looks like a no win situation to me.Damned if you do,damned if you don't.Beckey could have handled it better ,put all the responsibility on the Athletic Trainers for keeping players weights under control!Deligate authority to subordinates, and be personally responsible for as little as possible, and when all goes wrong, claim you knew nothing about it.

                      Let's see . . .

Close this thread? (Not inclined to do so just this second. . . )

                      Give people time-outs? (Similar to above, but I admit temptation . . . )

Give people additional rope to hang themselves? (Sounds fun in an evil sort of way . . . )

Some creative combination of the above, with perhaps other elements I haven't thought of yet?

                      Decisions, decisions . . .

(be content, my pretties, that I am at an undisclosed remote location with intermittent Internet access . . . )

I just deleted a post that went political.

Becky Francis handles or mishandles her coaching duties in such a manner that her superiors decide to terminate her contract and as a result, a few on this message board get a little goofy? Football season can't get here soon enough!
