Yes I meant the comments attached to the news article. If I meant what you said, I would have quoted you directly. Thank goodness I was saved from a nasty message.

When a coach at a PUBLIC U imposes his/her non-sports beliefs on the team, and makes play? decisions on those beliefs, then you can have these consequences. Becky would fit in at a Liberty, ORU, Presbyterian, but at an SU or U of type of school, I can now appreciate the "dismissed for cause." Being Muslim in this country is very challenging and challenged.

Can we change the title of the thread, it is now obvious that she did not "retire".

Its interesting to try and understand what argument people are trying to create as it pertains to an issue like this. Public education should be separate from religious influence. The coach is very clearly in the wrong here and if she was given the opportunity to correct her behavior then failed to do so she needed to be terminated. Pretty easy as I see it.

It's much, much harder being a Christian and trying to worship your God in a Muslim country, maybe they(the Muslims) make their own problems by not keeping their radicals in check.I don't think they have to worry too much about violence in America, where as the threat of violence or death is very real in Muslim countries.

I don't think a Christian in a Muslim country could complain in Taliban country about undo religious influence being applied in Afghanistan.Oh that's right , they don't believe in freedom of religion in the Muslim world.I hope you don't think this is a pesonal thing,i just wanted to debate this statement and give my own opinion....sorry(turned the other cheek enough times where i've been slapped silly)

So it might be safe to say being the minority religion in any country might not be easy.

It might be noted that exhibiting any religion might be difficult. (Notice the Tebow insults) That is not to reinforce the notion to force a life style on players in a public university. If that player did not fit your mold, then do not recruit the player. As a side note, I think it would be a quick exercise to look at the coaches at SDSU and maybe find one or two that would encourage young athletes to consider their spirtual life. I would be cautious slinging arrows at Coach Francis for her beliefs and I would ask why she would recruit a player that may not fit the mold. I am not in a position to defend her behavior that may have occurred with this young woman. I do know that Coach Francis did some visits to the schools in Sioux Falls as well as community service in the Rochester area that speak well of her intentions. If there are more facts that surface for her dismissal, we can examine those as they come forward. It would seem an easy wager that more stories will be public.

This would be a great analogy, but this isn't a Christian nation, but a nation of religious freedom. So your analogy holds no water.

                            2007 Pew Forum U.S. Religious Landscape Survey (http://religions.pewforum.org/reports) :
                            Percentage of the U.S. population:

                            78.4% - Christian (51.3% Protestant, 23.9% Catholic)
                            6.3% - Secular unaffiliated
                            5.8% - Religious unaffiliated
                            2.4% - Agnostic
                            1.7% - Jewish
                            1.6% - Atheist
                            0.7% - Buddhist
                            0.6% - Muslim
                            0.4% - Hindu
                            <0.3% - Other world religions
1.2% - Other faiths (Unitarian, New Age, Native American, etc.)

Looks pretty Christian to me. Of course, you may be committing the common logical fallacy of equating "the government" with "the nation." They are, we hope, related to some extent, but they are not the same entities.

The USA is a majority Christian nation. Its government guarantees religious freedom. These two statements are not in conflict. The latter is where Francis mainly screwed the pooch, if reports are correct. Oakland is a state university, and it accepts Federal funding.

                            Ka-boom.
