Kampe's experience and ties to fmr. Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl had a lot to do with that. Location helps Oakland as well with getting return games, as a decent team can schedule them as part of at rip to one of the Michigan's or really any school in the Great Lakes area. There have been a few SDSU-NDSU road swings or SDSU-Minnesota but nothing major. If Minnesota played anyone out of conference at home, maybe that could be an option, to try to get a solid team at home.

Its tough to get solid home games at Frost, winning a bunch of games at home doesn't help, expensive airport in Sioux Falls doesn't help, and lack of quality D-I opponents in the area hurts as well. There are numerous hurting factors with getting home games. Larger conferences are hurting as well, as less non-conference games leads to less non-conference road games. Could even hurt with some guarantee road games in the future.

      Re: Oakland 2013-2014 Schedule...

Oakland has their share of people who want more home games and fewer thumpings on the road against strong opponents. I would assume there would be numbers of people wanting more home games on this site should we lose 3-4 home game dates at Frost which are replaced by losses at Big 10 etc sites. Coach Kampe is funding his program with those guarantee road games and he has the goal of elevating his OU program past the mid major moniker like a Gonzaga or Creighton. The idea that SDSU could tag onto another team's OOC seems logical, but the actual cooperation between the bison or gophers does not seem that it is workable at first glance..

In his latest video interview (posted in the Oakland thread) Kampe mentions that he thinks his team is "finally gaining some confidence". Playing a brutal OOC schedule is going to result in a lot of early losses. I suppose your team would need the right kind of mentality to avoid getting damaged by starting off the year that way. It's a risk anyway.
