      Re: Who's panicking?

Sorry I made this the most boring thread ever. Stats be quite dry. Those of you that find the topic unintersting please stop here.

Zoo and Filbert. Yes RPI is a population statistic. Conference mean RPI, as are all means, is a point estimate statistic. All point estimate statistics have an associated variance component. Perhaps Std Error of the Mean may not be the best variance stat, but distributions of averages are normally well modeled by the standard normal distribution so I pulled that one off the shelf.

Filbert likes to comment that certain threads should end, so Filbert, please put this thread of yours and mostly Zoo's to death.

Well, I HAVE been trying, in my own rather obscure way . . .

          (Alternate answer: Heh. The chances of that happening are . . . uh . . . well . . . )

Filbert, a very good/political response (wow that was hard giving credence to those two words together) good luck with it. Now I'm keeping this thread going, no mas.

Now this would be the dream scenario. A Summit/Horizon Merger.

                West:

                Green Bay
                IL-Chicago
                Milwaukee

                South Dakota St
                South Dakota
                UMKC
                Western Illinois

                Detroit
                IPFW
                IUPUI
                Loyola (IL)

Give up one automatic bid? Won't happen. Objectively, it may make more sense for the Summit and the Horizon to re-arrange into Summit II (West, in scenario above) and Horizon II (East, in scenario above).

Butler announced today they will be moving to A10 starting with the 2012-13 season & talk of Oakland to the Horizon is back on the front burner. Horizon will be down to 5 baseball teams next year with the loss of Butler & Summit will also be down to 5 with the loss of ORU & SUU. I don't know the rules but believe the NCAA requires 6 teams competing in a league sport in order to qualify for an automatic bid. Is there a one or 2 year grace period? If Oakland does end up in the Horizon & the Summit is down to 4 baseball teams, what are the options?

The Summit League will not be down to five teams with loss of ORU and SUU. Omaha comes in with a baseball team, to keep it at six teams and an automatic bid. That, of course, does not guarantee anything as schools continue to move around.
