Well, soccer, baseball and softball all play single round robin schedules as well.

It's simple odds = good for single round robin. Evens good for double round robin (basketball and volleyball).

Yes, this is correct, ecpscially when one autobid is on on the line. Teams would be at a disadvantage having to play 5 conference road games, and only 4 home games. If the conference were to increase to 10 or 11 teams, I would expect them to maintain an 8 conference games schedule.

See, that's why we use weasel words like "almost everything else" . . . when we don't want to be bothered with silly stuff like specificity . . .

Why not make it 10. What big difference would that make honestly. One less non-con game against Delaware? How did that go this year? Everyone can still get in their FCS game and play a good amount of conference games in a very strong conference. The MVFC is the only one not look at changes it seems, especially the unprogressive ones. Seriously, when most schools and conferences would like to find ways to move forward, the MVFC is taking the MAC route and staying pat with everything.

At best, I would consider this an..."emotional 1st post".

My guess is that we will hear and read from some in the SD media market some of the same stuff that is in this post. Can't wait.

                      Two more Teams??

Well, with the news that USD "may" go Big Sky for all sports along with UND and SUU. Let use this board for what it was intended..."speculation"!

Obviously, the Summit will need to pick up two more teams to get back to 10. Who will it be??

                      Denver? Eastern Illinois?
Who would be a good fit for ORU? Oakland?

                        Re: Two more Teams??

There is nothing. We'd have to convince the MVFC to add EIU if wanted them in the Summit. Denver is probably going to the WAC.

I want nothing to do with UTPA, UVU and Chicago State. Maybe we should just try to get USD into the MVFC, they are probably the one school league members would be most receptive to adding.

Compare the way the invitation process was handled for the Summit with this mess at the Big Sky.

I begin to think that the Big Sky has enjoyed its stability in no small part due to it being the ONLY GAME IN TOWN. Look at this mess!

Summit was clear, smooth, and orderly. Schools send letters, presidents meet, schedule a site visit, extend an invitation.

In this case, no site visits are necessary, apparently (which might explain how Northern Colorado got in so easily). No site visits, no clear cut invitation process. Just one giant mess from end to end.

                            Dumb.

Have fun forking over the exit penalty, and scheduling two payday games a year to help meet your significantly larger travel budget, USD (if Sayler is dumb enough to handicap 14 sports for the sake of convenience in scheduling for ONE of them).

This would hint to me that Montana and possibly Montana St. is on their way out.
It's like they're throwing darts(invites) and seeing who will bite. And in UND/USD's case they know they've got them over a barrel because of uncertainty with FB.
My bet in the end is that USD/UND are in with FB-only membership and SUU is in for all-sports.

                              Someone if Bluffing, IMO.

Re: Big Sky looking at USD

I was reading the thread on this issue over at EGriz. Lots of concern about travel costs and criticism about the league's decision to take a pass on NDSU and SDSU. The only difference between then and now is that the WAC is courting Montana. Which leads everyone to believe that Fullerton sees the writing on the wall and the league can't count on the Montana schools to be around in 2012.
