NoVaJack's beer tastebuds were destroyed in 1973-74 by two-for-50-cent Buckhorns at Horts.

If you paid that much they saw you coming. JD is right: Once you've tasted Buckhorn, nothing else ever tastes the same. Or tastes, period. It was one step above hooch.

        Is it still made?

Only way that dredge was drinkable was ICE COLD, chug the first half then rapid polish off the rest.

BTW, if any of you find your way to the Big Easy, definitely want to enjoy a Jax Brewery Southern Pecan. Goes well with Zydeco.

I saw Buckhorn about 10 years ago...Schells had the brand, if my memory is accurate.

According to Wiki and other sources, Buckhorn was produced by Olympia Brewing before they were bought by Pabst, then sold to Miller. The Olympia plant has since been shut down, and I can't find any info out there to suggest Buckhorn is being contract brewed by a smaller company. I'd have to say that this once great beer is gone.

A moment of silence, and then a prayer to the beer gods that it will not be resurected.

I do wish I were a social drinker and could sample beers mentioned on this board, but I am afraid, I relinguished that right the first time I drank a beer. Since that time until age 33 all beer tasted the same. It had an intoxicating effect. Today to have one sample would be poison, so good luck and enjoy your conversation.

Best new beer is 2 cases of an Odell Levity clone homebrew in my pantry. Friends had trouble distinguishing it from the real Levity in side by side tasting.

If there are any homebrewers on the board that would like the recipe, send me a message.

Ben will have Rogue Dead Guy Ale (perhaps the best Ale ever made) on draft soon. I'm excited to say the least.
This is super old but I'm digging it back up. Had Dead Guy Ale for the first time tonight, I must say I was quite impressed. It's got a nice flavor to it.

I know Rogue beers have been at select places in South Dakota for a while now (Monk's, Ben's) but it sounds like they are going to be statewide now. I'm pretty excited. This was the first time I've seen a Rogue beer in Pierre so hopefully that's true.

Also, had my first scotch ale the other week. It was always something I wanted to try but could never find any of them in Pierre. Found a 6 pack of Brau Brothers Scotch Ale and enjoyed it. I'm not sure if they even make it anymore since it was the only 6 pack they had there and I haven't seen it anyplace else.

My favorite Scotch ale is Skullsplitter, hands down, no comparisons in my book.
