  • Argue vs debate.

We have a poster on this board, who believes sincerely that he is debating and not arguing a particular point. So why not do a google to see what turns up. I have thought argue and debate were very close in meaning, not exactly the same meaning but close in meaning.

Well here is what I found:

Nidaros you could just use my handle. If you have a problem with me, feel free to PM me and hammer on me to your heart's content.

I didn't know I was so deserving of my own thread!

No I don't have problem with you but you did give a reason to start this thread, and its not a personal thing at all. Argue vs. debate and the difference in meaning. I found out there is a difference contrary to my prior conclusion that they were much the same in meaning. This one link does a good job in separating the differences in meaning. Since its a slow time of the year, why not argue or as you choose debate?

What goes through a moderator's mind on a Saturday morning:

Do I just close this thread ("discuss posts, not posters?")

Or do I post a link to the Monty Python Argument Clinic Sketch?

        Yeah . . .

Not arguing or debating, merely asking a question: Is this the most pointless thread ever on this site?

Hmm. Not sure. What's your point?

Close it down. I did not mean to offend the sophistication of NOVAJACK, but apparently I did. My humble apologies.

Everyone seems a bit on edge lately.

                Safe Memorial Day Weekend, all.
