Argue vs debate.

We have a poster on this board, who believes sincerely that he is debating and not arguing a particular point. So why not do a google to see what turns up. I have thought argue and debate were very close in meaning, not exactly the same meaning but close in meaning.

No I don't have problem with you but you did give a reason to start this thread, and its not a personal thing at all. Argue vs. debate and the difference in meaning. I found out there is a difference contrary to my prior conclusion that they were much the same in meaning. This one link does a good job in separating the differences in meaning. Since its a slow time of the year, why not argue or as you choose debate?
