  • Josh Ronneck (sp?)

Probably misspelled the last name, but your runnng back from 10 years ago or so that was so good, anyway, I met his younger sister today and she is just a great young lady.

If Josh is anything like her, I can see why you all enjoyed having him at SDSU. What a neat family, and very close also.

Fun to see families like that stick together.

Ranek is the proper spelling and they are a great family. I worked very closely with Josh's mom Lori long before Josh was a Jackrabbit.

Ranek's rushing record still boggles my mind. Kyle Minett, as great as he is, would need a couple more seasons to break it.

How crazy is Ranek's career mark? Consider this, from my rough number crunching, Minett would need about 1,300 yards in EACH of the last two games to top Josh. Yep, as JimmyJack said, Josh has about a 2 season lead on Minett.

For the record - Ranek records - single season - 2,055 yards, career - 6,744. Josh AVERAGED more per year over a four year career than the second best season put up in school history. Josh holds the top three single season marks, Dan Sonnek is #4 at 1,518. Keep in mind, Josh's "off" season he still rushed for 1,000 yards. Had he kept his pace of 1,800 + per season he would have ended with over 7,500 yards for his career. THAT is how good he was.

And just for fun, the all time all division NCAA career rushing mark is 8,074 yards by Nate Kmic of DIII Mount Union.

And thus ends my education piece for today.

Wasn't the "off" season due to an injury? I don't recall but either he had a down year due to injury or sat out a year. My memory is going, just getting too old.

Also, I thought some linemen were hurt also. Matt Rock? he didnt have the same size to run behind who was ever injuried from the line.

Imagine what Ranek would have done if SDSU made the postseason. The records now include bowl and post season games. Since Mount Union typically makes the Stagg Bowl, the kid from Mount Union was able to play 15 games a year. In his senior season he had over 1000 yards in 5 post season games.

Give Ranek 3-4 extra games a year and he might have went over 9k.

LOL I played right guard next to him (Mr Rock) in HS... I think Matt got hurt as well prior to completing his time at state.. but that is just my memory. If he is on here maybe he could clarify.

Broke a foot I believe in 2nd game of 97 season in Grand Forks. Not sure if he had other injury setbacks later in his career. Would be interesting to have the two #30's switch years and see how they fair against the competition.

Josh redshirted in 1996 and took a medical in 1997. He was injured in 2000 when we started the season 5-0 and ended with a 6-5 mark.

yeah I was at the game in which he screwed up his shoulder.

Josh played softball with my dad when I was young. His sister actually babysat me a time or 2.

Josh played 44 games, which works out to 11 per season. However I believe and I could be mistaken that he played a game or two his redshirt freshman season and broke his foot or ankle injury or something and got a medical redshirt. If memory serves right, he was the #2 back to the kid from Yankton that was in the same class as Josh, but then the kid from Yankton (name's slipping my mind) screwed up his knee and Josh took over the #1 spot the following year and never gave it up.

Wasn't Josh at state when Stig became the head coach?

I believe Scott Nedved was the young man from Yankton.
