And for cryin' out loud, would you get yourself a sense of humor? Please?
I realise I am smacky on this board but I am talking about what I post on the Coyote board. When it comes to USD I am one of the most critical Coyote fans but also one of the most congradulatory as well. Often times I would prefer to avoid the smack as well but I just get sucked in too much. If I posted on another thread I would be affraid that it would get moved to this board just because of who started the topic.

      I like Vermillion.

Not enough to live there, mind you, but SD 19 crosses the Missouri River at one of its more photogenic spots, and Vermillion itself has a nice small town feel to it.

I'd rather live in a VAN, DOWN BY THE RIVER!

Ah come on Kemo, isn't this the love one, love all thread. Even Vermillion deserves just a little bit of Love as does Brookings. No matter how smacky things get I can get past it and no matter how many Jacks fans give me crap I can get past it. Our only real difference is that we have a passion for a different college. The smack session is like attending a game and yelling for our own team sometimes and against the other sometimes but when we walk out of the double doors everything is water under the bridge.

I was mostly taking advantage of the opportunity to drop a Chris Farley reference...

As far as Vermillion it has actually gotten a bit better since I left almost 11 years ago. They used to have nothing but Burger King for fast food but at least they have McDonalds. If anyone makes a trip down there which inevitably there will be several fans from this board down there I recommend a couple of good restaurants. I used to never like Chinese food but one day I tried Chae's in downtown Vermillion and to this day it's still my favorite Chinese place and I still eat their often when in town. I have tried at least 20 other Chinese places but none is as good as Chae's. A fairly good Mexican place to eat is also downtown, Recuerdo's. It's not my all time favorite but a pretty good place to eat.

The USD campus has improved alot recently and there is a very nice appartment complex just to the south of the dome that kind of stands out in a positive light instead of the trailors that were there previously. Vermillion still has aways to go but it's on the right track now. In South Dakota the growing process can be painfully slow often times.
I think it's always better to see somebody in person. That way you can tell how they take/give jokes. I guess if you know them, you might know their sense of humor.

USD is a lot better than Centenary. They might actually have a few SD(or surrounding area) players on their team. It's more fun to follow players that you know. Even if that just means seeing them at State or seeing their name on the news. They will actually have a few fans show up. There were a couple chants (both ways) at the Women's game that I didn't like but the enviroment sure was lively. I won't go to a basketball game in the dome but if they had a basketball facility, I'd go there and I'd never go to Centenary.

Filbert- It's none of my business but why the hate for IPFW. I follow the league but still don't have a great read on some of the teams in the league.

It has a number of levels, none of which are particularly serious . . .

First, the Dons have this annoying habit of beating the holy bejeezus out of our men's basketball team. That's the biggest reason.

Second, come on, they're extinct shaggy pachyderms. What's not to hate?

Third . . . um . . . it irritates USD people that I hate somebody else? OK, that one's pretty weak. But then the other ones are pretty weak, too.

I think that's actually kind of the main point. I'd hate Centenary but that would be like hating a baby fur seal or a blind, three-legged little dog, or something. Hating Oakland or ORU or NDSU is way too easy. Southern Utah is too far away to effectively hate. I live in metro KC and can't hate on UMKC because I just love the atmospherics of the epic Jackrabbit-Kangaroo battles. Plus their mascot is the goofiest looking one in the league. IUPUI . . . meh. Western Illinois . . . double meh.

So, I hate IPFW. By default, really.

It makes a good running joke--at least in my warped little mind, anyway . . .

No one can hate on ORU because Oral Roberts is tight with God and if you hate the Eagles lightning really hurts when it hits you. Plus the four horsemen thing and the horde of locusts wipeing out your garden, and the plague stuff.

As a person who really dislikes vermillion as much as you possibly can, I must say Leos as a small town sports bar sure has good burgers. Not impressed with much else in that town but give props where props are due.

Oh funny story, my wife is getting her masters at USD, her professor mentioned how when high school tours were going through, when they asked one kid why he wanted to go to usd he said he like they new building and wanted to be in the engineering program. Which i found that to be amusing. I must say I do not like the union and business school designs. I like the Neuharth building, old main and such, the new union just does no justice to that campus. Again i will give credit, they removed all the trailors next too the dome and are putting in a cyote village, looks very nice and awesome building design. Much improved over the trailors. Which i did miss a little since my wife lived there affordably while going to college. A lot of good memories from there.
