Re: Guys and Gals on the Shot Clock

I figured thread drift didn't matter here.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks, but you can never teach a stupid dog anything.

What was SV's W-L record in those games against Clark and Arlington?

In all seriousness, I can see the reasoning behind wanting a shot clock in all classes, and it is probably a good idea. However, the rules allow flat out stalling or holding for the last shot with 2 minutes left in a period. It is a very interesting strategy when used, and it really gets the crowd into the game. I am glad the College Basketball does have a shot clock, because with the win-at-all-costs atmosphere of college bball, we would probably see aaaalot of stalling.

Albert Einstein once said, "You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else." I would say the Vincent coached teams exemplify this attitude for the most part. He was one of the first high school coaches in the area who used a matchup zone regularly, and it caused fits for a lot of opponents for a few years (coaches yelling from the sidelines, "they're in man" followed by "they're in zone") FWIW, Sioux Valley has won 75% (196-65) of their games since Vincent started coaching in 97, I would guess 4-7 of those wins came because of "stalling".

Back to the topic of the thread, Chad and Tony will be good additions to the team next year.

Edit: I will not write any more off topic posts on this thread.
I think it's frustrating regardless of what side I'm on.

The main disagreement I have is with, "it really gets the crowd into the game". Would you rather see somebody dribble 2 minutes off the clock at midcourt or shoot the ball and get up and down the court? I guess I'm just a fan that enjoys action instead of strategy. I understand strategy but holding the ball for 2 minutes just doesn't cut it. The last minute is understandable but how about 1:05, 1:10, 1:15, ETC... I think the Madison coach said he held the ball to give SV a "taste of their own medicine" on the radio after the game.

I think Vincent has a little of the win at all costs attitude. Isn't he the guy that coached the District game against Arlington that was 2-8 at halftime? I know Arlington would have killed SV but I think the Madison/ SV game would have been a good one. I don't know if I have more faith in SV than he does.
He knows more than I do but it just would have been much more fun to watch.

I don't know how much either team had to lose. I guess there could have been seeding at the State Tourney but both teams will be #1 seeds in Districts. The games after that are at neutral sites so you don't have to worry about SF Christian/Clark-Willow Lake/whoever getting home court advantage.

Both teams are normally high scoring teams.
      Madison-
      100's- 2
      90's- 2
      80's- 2
      70's- 3
      60's- 5
      50's- 1
      30!

      SV-
      80's- 3
      70's- 6
      60's- 6
      50's- 2
      40's- 1
      29!

The game would have been much more fan friendly if it was played in the 70's-80's. I know that the game isn't just for the fans but it could have been one of the better games played all season.

Oh well, it's over and time to move on.
