Here's some quick math for you CF...

    2006-2007 Revenue from ticket sales:
    USD = $218K (approx.)
    SDSU = $480K (approx.)

I'd have to say that's by far the most telling stat in this whole arguement. Can you imagine what the 2008-2009 revenue numbers are going to look like with the U wallowing away in transition hell?? Ouch.
Oh, but I'm sure the average attendance will still be reported as 4700 for all basketball games and 11k for football.
How does it feel to be a fan of a university that is good at one thing...misrepresenting the truth?

    The SDSU Athletic Department motto:
    "Passionate...Relentless...Champions"

    The USD Athletic Dept. Motto:
    "Nobody will Know, Trust me."

BTW, I had some U fan yesterday try and tell me that the U's women would beat SDSU's by double-digits. Wow...Ignorance is bliss, Ignorance is bliss. I just looked at him and shook my head...what more can I do when dealing with people that have no idea what the hell their talking about.

Try living in close proximity to the U. I hear it everyday. They should be satisfied that they are beating the teams they are playing and try to keep doing that.

I just love how they report bigger crowds than us in about every case and absolutley nobody buys it! Their revenue for tickets is 1/3 of SDSU's. That isn't going to get better my dear 'Yote fans!

How does it feel standing at the edge of the cliff looking into the abyss of transition hell?

Oh, yeah! This is an Augie basketball thread!

Speed, strength and quickness...it is not in Vermillion. No comparison. We would tip them over by more than 20, 9 times out of ten, and the tenth time, maybe beat them by 19.

I believe we would beat them by more than 20 in each half. They could probably compete with SUU(Southern Utah University for the uneducated usd2 fans) and Centenary, but they may not be able to win against any of the other SUMMIT League teams. ORU would beat them by more than 20.

The yotes have got some darn good shooters and a tough gym to shoot in. The run they are on right now is impressive regardless of the level of competition. I'm curious to see how things go when they reach the regional that they'll most likely host if they win the NCC tournery. They have a great chance to make the Elite 8.

Do I think they would compete with or defeat our Jackrabbits? No I don't think they could, especially the way we're playing right now. It would be a fun game to watch, especially if we blew them out.

I don't know that I'd agree with that. The majority of the Summit is pretty low in the RPI rankings. USD is one of the top DII teams in the nation. While I think we'd be 20+ favorites on them, I do think they'd be fairly competetive with the bottom half of of the conference.

Regardless, if we were a 20 point favorite, that is a huge margin! A 20 point dog (pun intended) is a team that is no where near the class of their opponent.

It would be a pretty easy win for the Jacks! Keep dreaming 'Yotes.

I think that might be a little much. The USD argument is that top D2 teams would be in the upper half of D1. I'd say that's mostly ludicrous, but it might be most true in women's basketball. We've seen that women in this region are definitely nationally competitive athletically.

                        Re: Augie Basketball

Well you can really tell that we have arrived within this region as the women's basketball program. Everyone wants what we have. When other programs are trying to compare themselves to the SDSU Jacks, it is an indication of envy. Heck even Wisconsin-Green Bay tried to take our coaching staff. They want what we have. NDSU and the rest of the Summit League teams either publicly or privately wish they had a program like SDSU's women's basketball right now. They wish they had our attendance. They wish they had our home winning streak. They wish they had not given up a second half lead in 54 games. They all wish they had a Frost arena on campus.

Heck the Oral Roberts coach said in his presser that we had 4,000 fans at the game last night. We had just over 2,000 fans, but it probably sounded like 4,000 fans. Because the fans are right on top of you it sounds like more fans are actually there. When we sold out for the WNIT is sounded like a rock concert. In most Summit League and Independent games you can hear crickets chirping, attendance is so poor.

The lower division teams, USD and UND make vain attempts to compare themselves to SDSU's WBB program. SDSU's has not and will not aspire to be like the UxD's. SDSU aspires to be in the Top 25 in the country. To make the NCAA tourney. To advance beyond the first round of the NCAA tourney. To host WNIT games and to win the WNIT. The UxD's are behind and they just wish they could sniff our recent success. They want it so bad that they decided to transition into Division 1 in sports, even though they don't have a conference secured at the time.

The next time a USD alumn talks smack and says that they are better or equal to SDSU in something just reply back this way. USD has nothing that I would want.

Football - SDSU (Conf. Champs) or USD - No brainer, SDSU
Football Conference - Gateway vs. GWFC - Gateway by a mile.
All Sports Conference - Summit vs. Independence - Summit no question.
WBB - SDSU (Conf. Champs) vs. USD - SDSU, heck USD's coach is quitting.
MBB - SDSU vs. USD - SDSU, I mean USD has folded in every big game this year. They only beat former NAIA teams or lower NCC teams. Do they have a quality win on the road or at home? We at least beat a Missouri Valley team at home.
Coughlin vs. Dakota Dump - Coughlin, football was meant to be played outside.
Frost vs. Dakota Dump - Frost, hands down.

You could go on, but really I can't think of one athletic program or athletic facility at USD that I would pick over SDSU. That is no smack, that is the truth.

No actually, the arguement that I've been getting is they would beat SDSU by double-digits. I call that very ludicrous.

I completely agree that the top tier d-2 teams in would be in the upper half of D-1. 336 teams divided by 2 equals 168 would be the top half. I'll buy that. But to say straight-face a d-2 team (USD in this case) beats a top 60 D-1 team by double digits...not a chance I'll ever give into this.

                            Re: Augie Basketball

So how many more years does Nagy have before he is out the door. Did I read that right 3-15 in the Summit League. That is not real good folks. D1 or not thats laughable. As terrible as USD is in basketball this year they would finish better than 3-15. Morgenthaler should be on the way out of these years.
It's going to be quite a while before you find out how well USD would do in the Summit League, since in all probability USD will be languishing as an independent for a time.

Let's look at the Sagarin rankings for independents:

                            219 Utah Valley State
                            250 Texas-Pan American
                            256 Chicago State
                            288 Savannah State
                            308 Presbyterian College
                            315 CS Bakersfield
                            327 Longwood
                            334 NC Central
                            341 NJIT(New Jersey Tech)

Life as an independent is not quite the trip to the park that you think it is.

When making an estimate, saying something like "at least 3-1" that the ratio was near 3-1, but not less than 3-1. I could say that New York City had at least 10 people, which would be true, but if I tried to use that as an estimate for the population of NYC, I'd be laughed at.
