Come on...they put it on the banners and the scoreboard and still no-one moves. Lets face it...SDSU fans just don't get that the games are not just social events. Players thrive for home cooking noise...those of us that have played sports (high school and above), understand this. There is a point and time in every game that the noise level makes a difference. We at SDSU should take advantage of this because of the lack of crowds that many of our apponents play too at home. The Den should be a shell shocker for our apponents.
We can't even get the crowd to stand up and cheer in the last minute of each half.
I guess when I sat and the bleachers and someone use to tell me to sit down I politely told them to either stand up and cheer or move because I'm not sitting down. 9 out of 10 times those fans stood and joined in...it can be contageous, we just got to get our fans back into that mode.
Think back to the SDSU vs Ft. Hayes regional game. It wasnt just their players that said our crowd took them out of the game, it was also their coaches.
OK I am done ranting...I guess I should start hitting the bars again so this crap would just roll off of me.
I was at that Ft Hays game also, I was still in high school and sitting in the upper deck. That game was really the most fun that I had at a game. We had to stand and cheer from the upper deck. The next year when Northern came to Frost for the region final, we got into a little disagreement with northern fans that did not want to stand, needless to say that was a fun enviroment.
I remember all the recent years we hosted to D-2 tourney, I had nice seats in the student section as a young junior jack. In fact I remember yelling my little heart out and losing my voice in those games. Our students were vocal and active back then, look at them now...Showing up just to look like they are involved, as a social event. The only time they make noise is Hobo Day or NDSU games, which is sad. What happened to the student in the ten years since we've hosted? Are they just there so they look good and can say the went to the game or what? They are willing to go out and "riot" as it was put last year, but not willing to gather at games and make a difference. Maybe the students that stand and cheer have to spread out and stand so people behind them have to stand to see the action, I don't know. I feel students are joining the FanAddicts to say the are involved to look cool. The students are a let down for the crowd. A group of 20 students alone can not make enough noise to make Frost a tough place to play. Hell, even Keith Jensen and his wife were making more noise than most of the students Thursday night. I dunno what else to say, I'm frustrated with trying to get students involved in games.
i hope someday that we will pack the student section for most of our conference games. those will be the games that are important to win. the old NCC games were fun to watch and cheer in.
Yeah I remember that Northern game, too. I was still in high school but a bunch of us made the short drive down. We sat up top on the north end. Was that the game that the Miller kid was lights out for them? I also remember the game against Metro State in, I think, 2002. I was a senior at State that year. They had that kid from Australia that just did not miss. That game came down to Schantz driving in for a lay-up that he missed. :'( I was sad, but I do remember great student sections for those games.
I was a front row guy from 1993-1995 and this group does not even compare and we had no group name! We gave other people names like Kurt Meister "Big County" and so on. A shirt and a bluehat do not make a cheering section. Crazy wild maniacs make a cheering section. We had no cheers, we were just primed before we got to the game. We just rode the coaches and players so much they started to talk back and then it was over! People never ever told us to sit down and they could barely hear the announcer "JT" and that is hard to do!
So stand up make some noise and stop trying to be the Dukies and the gators and the.......... you guys are way to nice! And Bluehat, nice guys finish (you know where)
Ive been a student here sense 2000. My friends and I were several of the ones who did body painting at the usd games and were front row for as many games as we could make it too I think the wrost thing they did was to change the seating the way they did, sure it might look kinda cool but, well, the old wood bleachers were closer to the court so we could yell louder. the media table now is in front of us making us futher away from the action. and it took seats away from the ends of the courts also. The students section is higher up then it use to be so now when students stand they block even more from people behind and a few years ago during tournament games upd came by telling us to sit down so they could see, now with the higher seats it will only be more of a problem. if anything i would have created a section more like what duke has, where we would be inches from the action not 15 feet. and lower the seats so it makes people stand and wouldnt block the views of those behind. Also with the new baskets they use, they block more of the view on the ends so no one even wants to sit on the ends now so there is less of a full cirlce of people around. i would go back to the uniqueness of the hanging baskets because well, not many places use them anymore and that would be another unique feature we have. hope im not the only one who feels this way bout the seats and all, but its hard to cheer like we use to when we were closer to the action.

I was there front row screaming my head off and i dont care what anyone says, schantz was fouled when he took that last shot. If i recall that austrailia kid that was the biggest game of his career, and was just a soph? I partied with a player after the game and a trainer and it was still disbelief that we lost that game.

nicknames like cowboy cody. that guy was great fun to watch. I agree with a lot of that. the effort is there from a handful of students but try doing some body paint and just yell. heckling the other coach was what me and my friends were known for, after several games in the paper there would be quotes from the opposing coach about how hard it is to concentrate and how much they hated the student section. when you can heckle the coach so much that assistants turn around yelling back then you know youve gotten to um. Id show a picture of what we use to do but im not sure how to post pictures in here yet.

I'll also say I don't agree with the seating behind the team's bench. I think it's stupid to put that in the student section. I don't know if that's rules or what but we used to sit behind their bench and yell at the coach (last year). What's up with that?

Yeah, what is up with that. Every confrence game and USF we would be there making sure their coaching staff new how we felt about um. doesnt seem to work so well now. I would put opposing fan sections in the end of the court section behind the basket. still good seats and dont have to fight the student section for room.

It's a Mid-Con rule, visitor's seating plus a 3 row buffer between our fans and their bench. Can't do anything about it unfortunately.

thats unfortunate. seems like a lame rule. It seems wrong that it takes away from the student section. dont know why they couldnt have a designated area for visitors why that wouldnt be enough. but not much we can do about that. so are they keep deputy sheriff who stands there and glares at students like he use too if they start yelling to much? any body else remember that guy? he didnt seem to care much for the student section. but sure enough every game he was there in his deputy sheriffs hat trying to keep the student section down. atleast in my opinion.
