  • Re: The Official USD to D-I Smack Thread

The Coyote women had a nice run at the D-II championship before losing to Northern Kentucky, the same team that the SDSU women beat for the national championship in 2003. The 2008 Coyote women represented South Dakota well and deserve congratulations. For the rest of Coyote County, your team's descent to future oblivion begins now. Enjoy your second-place finish.

Finally some smack about how USD choked. I almost got a little tired of reading how we're all proud of the Lady 'Yotes and how they represented the state well. Whatever! They blew a 9 pt lead in the last 5 1/2 min....Lavin will have to deal with that for a very long time.

Here's my take: I'm not sorry that Lavin lost...anybody so pretentious (and so idiotic) who could make the statement "UND would be a top 30 team in Division I" doesn't deserve a national championship as he jumps ship.

I'm not sorry for the school, which obstructed SDSU at every turn, which we overcame in our successful transition to Division I.

I do feel sorry for the team members...it's tough to come close, but lose out on a national championship.

I'll never forgive the raunchy students (and adults) who in the past made a visit to the Dump a miserable experience for our players and fans (contrasted by how visitors that come to Frost often remark how "exciting" it is to play here).

I am in agreement here. I do feel for the women who did have a great year. Tough to lose that last game when it is your last and it is for the championship. As far as Lavin...who cares. Take your ball and go home.

I also agree with the statement about the Udot fans. One of the last times we played there, I was appalled to see adult fans holding up "Hate State" signs when the game was nearly over. These were supporters in the courtside seats. Even the students got to me with personal attacks on administration. At that time I didn't know where my daughters would be attending school, but swore that I would never give that school a cent of my money.

I had 40 year old women threatening me when I stood up to cheer after a good play by the Jacks the last time we played in the dome. No hurry to go back to that bull**** again.

Feel sorry for the players who had to suffer for the tough loss, but happy I don't have to listen to USD fans gloat about winning it all...

I was living in Vermillion the last time we played there. My wife was in PT school down there at the time. Some how we got tix right behind SDSU's bench and not way up in the nose bleed. At halftime of the women's game we were talking to one of her classmates in PT school. Some random USD fan came up to me and asked me if I was from SDSU (my SDSU shirt and hat obviously didn't tip him off). I nodded yes and continued my conversation with our friend. Well, this clown had just got back from the concession stand with nachos and decided he needed to throw a cheesy nacho at me. Classic USD.

Thankfully our mutual USD friend escorted him back into the student section.

That's just one of the many stories I could tell about the people down there seeing someone where yellow and blue just about every day. Thankfully I had my 115 lb Rottweiler with me most of the time and nobody dared to get too close (even though all she would have done was lick them to death).

I can't help but think of Lucy and Snoopy bobbing for apples. Lucy being the USD fans of course.

There are a few things that they did to our student athletes that are a whole lot worse. Maybe Stu should write a story about the real reason our Administration will not play them again.

I agree. I remember the last game I ever attended at the dump. Directly behind the players bench they had a table set up with glasses filled with water for the players. I witnessed a moron usd student spit in at least a dozen of the cups while a usd security personnel watched and laughed. I really do hope they fail at D1.

What you said is what probably bothers me the most. Things have happened right in front of security and administration and they just turn their head and ignore it. As a parent, not sure I would want my son or daughter in that enviroment. Not that everything is perfect at others schools, I just have hard time when the students act that way and nothing is done. But then, the attitude is reflected in the supporters that have been around a while. I get the same bulls**t from them. Guess the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree. I could go on and on, living close to Udot, but I think you know what I am trying to say...

That stuff will come back and bite them in the rear end when they seek conference affiliation in D1. Part of any conference's due diligence will be to see how events (and event security) operated at USD in the past. In the small world of athletic administrators, that kind of stuff doesn't stay a secret for very long.
                          Holy nutmeg!

One thing that will probably happen, USD will have two negative votes against them if they seek entrance into the Summitt League. They may get in but it won't be with a vote from the XDSU's because of all the issues mentioned above and the many more that are out there that haven't been brought forth.

USD is just not a class act when it comes to athletics, period.

Wow, I am surprised that Lavin is still quiting after an impressive run through top 30 ranked teams in D1. I would have thought he would make his come back speech yesterday and say that these women strength and will to play the game has brought me back! Overall, he is just scared to work hard for something. In DII all he had to do is break even and his job was fine. Then after SDSU left he started to actually get pretty good recuits and after stealing couple recuits illegally he had a pretty good team.....good job coach and good luck in retirement! We won't miss you.

Press conference today to announce that Ryan Williams (Wayne State) will be the new coach at USD. Rumor is Lavin will replace Ruley at NDSU and bring several players with him.
