That may be the case...it almost seems Woods thought that by adding another yard to the distance he would still incur just a one-stroke penalty. He talked about it freely at the press conference. But, he improved his position--and I suppose the intent of the rule is to prevent just that.

A few other pro's have suggested Woods should drop out of the tourney because it would be the gentlemanly thing to do.

Woods playing at or near the best seems to be good for golf. People either love or hate the guy. In the end the interest generated when he is in position to win is good for the sport.

Also being reported PGA officials were suspicious of it before round ended but didn't do anything. PGA officials saying it should have been dealt with before the round was over

Rick Reily reporting Tiger was informed of review and was deemed legal before signing card. People claiming him to w/d are ridiculous.

If Tiger drops out ,it's because he's pizzed off,not because of what some jealous, washed up hacks have to say.

Like witness posted, the officials looked at this while the round was still going on, ruled it was ok, then Tiger finishes and signs his card. What he said in his interview caused them to look at again. I don't know what's worse, letting fans call in and officiate the sport or penalizing a player a day after the round is over.

What if Tiger plays flawless golf and wins or at least mounts a strong challenge for the win?! The PGA bosses have to be hoping for such a finish. Casual fans like me are more likely to tune in and watch this weekend (will help basketball withdrawal symptoms).

Wow, they got it right. It's a good thing they added a rule to prevent the DQ in cases like this. That would have been unfortunate for the quality of the tournament.

IMO this would've all been avoided if the original rule wasn't so vague. It should state "1 club length from the previous deemed shot"...not "a reasonable distance away". As far as Faldo the hypocrite saying he should dq himself...wouldn't that be in violation of rule 33-7 that protects players from a ruling being decided upon after the round and the player signs his card.

Some background info: according to the report linked below, a TV viewer caught the error and called it in!

A bit unfair to Tiger and the other leaders since they are on camera so much more. Faldo was out of line calling for Tiger to withdraw, but corrected himself during today's broadcast.

It is an absolute JOKE that TV viewers can call in to report infractions. Maybe I should start calling the NFL offices for everytime a penalty is not called or everytime a call was wrong in NBA. Coach officials, smh.

The rule is lame, I'd always been told 2 yards no closer to the pin and can't improve your lye. Golf has officials with the group, if they don't have a problem with it why should someone be able to call in?

Same with the 14 year old getting called for time, its a major and its Augusta there is slow play out there already, being a little slow isn't going to do anything. Let him finish his round, and tell him that no more or we are penalizing you.
