Jim Thome hits #599 (two-runs) and #600 (three runs) against Detroit tonight in a 9-6 Twins win. Wow...quite a thrill to watch. The Detroit fans were very gracious, giving Thome a standing ovation. Thome's dad, wife and family came out of the stands. Good story.

Happened to check Wikipedia a short while after the end of the game and somebody had already updated Thome's entry.

And ALMOST news that exciting: the Twins trade Delmon on Young to the Tigers for nothing. I am so happy that I don't have to see his fat ass waddle around the bases or left field in a Twins uniform anymore. What a sack of ****.

Fun with stats: Jim Thome now has 36 homers in 462 at-bats for the Twins. Delmon Young had 47 homers in 1,845 at-bats for the Twins.

But this day will rightfully be remembered as Jim's day. Love watching him play.

Yep, that was an awful trade, Delmon Young for Garza/Bartlett. Garza and Bartlett went on to help Tampa win a World Series and Delmon....well maybe he will win won with the Tigers. The only ones worse for the wear are us Twin's fans.

Tampa did not win a world series.

Since I am nearly forced to read this thread because not much is going on at SDSU, I am learning a great deal. My following of baseball has been nil for a long time. I never heard of Jim Thome until reading this thread. I know who he is now though, congradualation on the HR's last evening. Delmon Young now seems to be on his way to being an insurance agent or some other bland non-baseball career. Did not say much but I am interested.

I was too lazy to open a new thread, but Punto signed with the redsox for 2 years.

Being a cardinals fan, I could never figure out why the twins fans hated him so much. Sure he is not a great avg hitter, but he can play the infield and do it well. He is a team kind of guy and a likeable guy. I hoped the cards would have kept him, I wish they would have kept Pujols too, but thats another story. Punto was liked in St Louis. As bad as the Twins were last year, they probably could have really used Punto.

Also I was reading the comments on ESPN website and the one who we do not speak of from the north had a brilliant post about how bad Punto is.

I didn't hate Punto, I hated how he was used. He played way too much and that's on Gardy. I think he would be a great utility guy that fills in when needed but Gardy though he was an everyday player.

Yeah I loved Punto, I just think Gardy sould have rethought the relentlessness of using him game after game after game...

I don't follow the twins closely, but could it have been the other guys werent as reliable? Sure you lose some offense, but solid D every night. The cards picked up Frucal, because he is great arm and solid D at SS but lacks the offense compared to what they had. Missing a few ground balls or a few more errs, can really make a big difference in a game. I find it hard to fault a guy and coach because he might have been the most reliable option they had. I could be wrong, I don't know who he the Twins had sitting on the bench, but as far as Cardinals fans go. He made big enough hits when he needed too and worked pitchers and didnt seem to be the easiest out. Plus if I remember, he hit a HR the game the cards got into the playoffs the last day of the year. I kind of wonder if the phillies regret going extra innings and beating the Braves the last series of the year. anway back to the point. Maybe if Punto was an everyday player for the cards I might feel different, he was injured a lot, but I would have liked to see him play more.

I asked my dad what he thought, and he said," Yeah He would be a great utility guy but Gardy was right. They had to use them as much as they did."
