    Re: Cody Larson II....

I remember watching Mike Miller in high school & not really understanding what all the fuss was about. In the games I watched he primarily played in the paint (which is where they needed him). He was obviously a better player than most he played against, but I didn't think he was heads and shoulders better, at least as a post player. AAU & college were a completely different story as he was allowed to play his more natural perimeter game.

From What I've seen Cody looks a lot more comfortable in the paint than Miller ever did (Which is where I see the similarity to Joe K.). I would agree that at this point he doesn't have the mental toughness, or basketball IQ that Joe K. had. I thought that the article comparring him to Miller was off base. If a player with the talent of any of the three were to don the Yellow & blue though I wouldn't complain in the slightest.

I'd agree that Larson is better compared to Krabbenhoft than Miller, but they are still fairly different players in their own rights. I see Cody as having a better offensive presence than Joe did, but Joe wasn't out worked by anyone on the floor when he was out there. I'd also say Cody is more athletic, but not nearly as thick as Joe.

Mike Miller was just a different player entirely in my opinion, as he was a 6'8" shooting guard/small forward who made his money with his perimeter game.

I don't think Larson can touch Krabbenhoft's intensity and game IQ. Larson has a better offensive game than Joe, but is afraid to bang which is something Joe thrived on. I don't see Larson doing all the dirty work and being happy with scoring 6 points a game, but setting 20 great picks, picking up 10 rebounds and handing out 6-8 assists (Joe's college game). I could be wrong, though.

I hope the kid gets his head on straight and has a great college career whereever he ends up. It's good for anyone who lives/have lived in SD. "The Dakota's" is generally thought of as the Siberia of the US by anyone outside of a 2 state vicinity of the boarders. Any time a kid from our state can show there really are good athletics going on here, I'm happy and rooting for him. I would be really happy if he shows that by helping take SDSU to the dance 2-3 times during his career.

Inside the hall finally makes it official - it is Stu WHINEY,

    NOT

Whitney - like he leads us to believe. Great work U of Indiana. (I knew it!)

Tom Crean(sp?) recruited Cody when he was at Marquette. He came to Roosevelt HS and apparently had no idea who Krabbenhoft was even though he started for Wisconsin in the same state. This really isn't a surprise that he's visiting there.

As storied as a program that Indiana is, they haven't exactly been lighting it up lately. With all the scandal that Sampson left the program in, most recruits have stayed away from the Hoosiers. Like Iowa, they finished 4-14 in the Big Ten and have a lot of work to do to get back to being a player in the BCS.

From a biased SDSU fan's view point:

Come to SDSU with the highest ranked recruiting class ever. Elevate your home state program to a mid-major threat with a decent shot of dancing at least once before you graduate. (The romantic storyline that movie scripts are written about)

    -or-

Go to a Big 10 bottom feeder (Iowa or Indiana) and take a risk that the team doesn't improve during your four years and that you will have to go through a coaching change.

I'm sure Larson is going to be receiving some other offers and I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at a Missouri Valley or Horizon team, but I don't think Iowa or Indiana are that great of options.

Probably right, though it's hard not to expect him to use his official campus visits for programs such as Indiana (he can make an unofficial visit, and maybe has already, to SDSU almost anytime he wants). If he comes to SDSU, it will because he "narrowed" it down to his best option, not because he limited his options.

Here is a video of Cody Larson while playing for the Schoolers. This was from last year. I do like the way he keeps stating that they are representing South Dakota. It sounds like he is proud to represent his state and I think he would be great for SDSU and South Dakota.

I am sure his AAU coach wants him to go to a big time conference so he can tell all of his future recruits that Cody went there and they can too. But I hope he is being advised to do what is best for him.

Agreed. Larson is a stud. Landing him would be a huge get for the Jacks, and SDSU might be a very good fit for Cody. He and Nagy seem to have similarly competitive, energetic, want-to-win personalities. It could be a great fit, especially with the rest of the young talent in Brookings. I have no idea what the chances are of Larson becoming a Jack, but I hope that he considers it.
