Re: Sioux nickname change likely with tribe stand

That's odd. Douple said yesterday that they need it 'resolved', and he said that more than once.

One might infer from Douple's statement that 'they've had five years', that he doesn't seem too impressed with their administration.

And I doubt that Douple's the 'tail wagging the dog' in all this. I suspect that the presidents' council also looks at the situation and says, 'they've had five years........'

It is odd. But for years it seems like the powers that be know the name is going to have be changed but nobody wants to break it to the hockey nuts.

I have no idea what is going to happen, the other reservation appears as if it might go to a vote. Of course Native Americans opposed to the nickname on the other reservation, the one that voted this past year in support, are trying to get signatures to have another vote on the issue. This madness could go on forever.

They are going to end up being called the University of North Dakota "Sue." As in litigation...

It would definitely fit them well and about the only people that have benefited from this saga are the attorneys.

This is exactly why there is no chance they keep the name. Someone needs to show some leadership and get it done. They can not allow use of their major branding logo to be controlled by an outside entity. It will be changed, and UND Hockey would be better off it got done sooner rather than later. Someone needs to be a leader and get it done. Kinda like Sioux Falls and the event center.

Maybe a 10 year stint in the Great West will be a lesson to UND. I think thats what is going to happen if they keep fooling around.

Saw this report regarding Fighting Sioux at:

                  http://www.dakotastudent.com/news/nc...lans-1.1605149

                  From the article,

A recent statement by the National Collegiate Athletic Association said that because UND is retiring the Fighting Sioux logo and nickname, it “has been removed from the list of schools subject to the policy regarding Native American nicknames and imagery at NCAA championship events.”

                  Also from the article,

Although nothing is official yet, the football team, along with a few other sports, may be moving to the Big Sky Conference, while other teams may join the Summit League, which 125,000 student-athletes at 10 schools call home.

Amazing. Just amazing. It sure is nice that North Dakota has all their other issues taken care of so that they can move on this. It is getting more and more comical as this whole process goes on. I hate to say this, but I feel sorry for the Bison fans. This thing is making all of ND look silly.
