Re: Sioux nickname change likely with tribe stand

UND's inclusion into the Summit League just got delayed even longer. Probably 1-2 years. The ND State Board of Education voted 5-3 on Friday to delay getting rid of the mascot till November. All in an effort to try and gain tribe support, once again.

This just baffles me. UND was hoping for inclusion into the Summit League in 2011-2012 but now that is in jeopardy.

Maybe they are not interested in the Summit League, or any league.

To me it just shows that there is one focus up there in Grand Forks and you can only play it on a frozen pond. Transition is bad enough, I can't imagine how much this will erode their fanbase. Not to mention that the Athletic Department and the Administration look like complete baffoons.

Hey, there's a name. The UND Fighting Baffoons.

The Summitt League could care less about Hockey. If UND isn't worried about all their other sports then why should the Summitt be interested in them? Am I onto something or on something with that? I don't know. It just seems like when the situation up there couldn't get any more bizarre or comical it does just that.

SDSU really got lucky to have conference memberships fall into place at good times. Transition sucked! Sure SDSU would have made a great addition to many conferences. A spot needed to open up and we're lucky it did.

            GB, GB, GJ!

The whole thing is pure Hockey based and thats it, It will cost UND MILLIONS that the state will not pay to remove all the Logos that Ralphy the Commy Engelstad plastered all over that place, technically they don't need to remove them, but even covering them all up for a post season game in Hockey would be a ton of money. Sadly they are hurting all other sports for the sake of 1, but then again Hockey is their bread and butter.

WCHA is mor important than the GWC, and or Summit

Do they have to cover them up for post-season hockey games? I haven't looked at anything for a long time, but I thought that if they changed the name they only had to take things out when it was normally replaced (i.e. when a seat gets worn out can't put another in with the old logo to match the rest) so that everything would be replaced in its normal life span.

The most descriptive word for the situation with the school in Grand Forks begins with "cluster" I believe . . .
                  "I think we'll be OK"

There are certain specified logos, that will have a time frame for replacement, but yes I believe IF they want to host any NCAA post season games, the "abusive" Logo needs to be covered. I don't know how many of you have been in there, but wow its a Logo everywhere you look, even in the Marble floor

I'm sure Hammer will correct me if I'm wrong, but thats how I remember it and like you haven't looked in awhile as I'm really getting tired of hearing about this "stupid" issue

Okay, you invoked my name so here I am. I'm like Beetlejuice without the repetition.

Here's the settlement agreement. Page 6 has the description of the categories, and pages 11 and 12 have detailed listings of the items to be kept or removed(and the deadlines).

This whole thing is a giant hot potato to the politicians of North Dakota. Everyone of consequence wants the nickname gone, but they don't want to be blamed for it. So the decision keeps getting delayed with the hope that the public and the supporters of UND will blame someone else when the time comes. The State Board of Higher Ed thought they had a way to blame the Standing Rock Sioux, but then this new lawsuit came up and threw everything into disarray again. I can just imagine UND president Kelley and AD Faison banging their heads into the wall just wanting the whole thing to stop.

Is the SBoHE an elected board?

If not, then what the (insert intensifier here) are these people afraid of?

                            Hockey goons.

At the least, they pour beer on you when you walk out of the hockey palace.

I could be wrong, but I believe this board is governor appointed. If they are elected they do not spend much on campaigning. I never heard ads nor do I recall seeing poster etc.

So many are connected to the University, and a lot people think its grossly unfair for them to have to give his logo and can always blame the few complaining natives on political correctness, because they feel they have honored the Native people by having programs in medicine and culture. They might have best suited programs for Native Americans, and they do have the highest enrollment of Natives of any of Dakota schools, but these actions do not justify the use of the logo. Some people can not accept that fact and move on, plus they have no concept of the D1 transition. Well when the Summit admits Utah Valley or some other school maybe a the resistence will finally go away.

oh yeah, when you show them proof the Summit and BSC are about equal they deny and hide!!!!
