Please for everyone's sake stick to news that can be validated with an online article or something of substance.
Only one of them told me that a flickertail was a bird and that was a member of the tribe that goes to college in South Dakota....

I said it seemed like a joke, I didn't come on and say I got really good sources, I just said that I talked to these people and thats what they said.... It was a conference I was at that had students from both UND and NDSU, and then when I came back one of the people that lives in my dorm that is a member of one of the tribes said that she had heard that they were changing it to the flickertails and I asked what a flickertail was and she was like a bird but they will keep the flame UND for the mean time....

Joe's source was close. While a flickertail is of course a Richardson's ground squirrel, a northern flicker is a bird.

for real? the district judge is from und? wow, that sounds fishy, first they pressure chapman and remove him, now they have a und judge pressuring the standing rock, see a trend anyone? just shameful, i think every conference should blackball them!

Anyone ever seen "It's A Wonderful Life"?

You know that scene where Jimmy Stewart's going on about wanting to shake the dust off his feet and see the world? And the guy that yells out the window: "Why don't you kiss her instead of talking her to death"?

Well, the SBoHE needs to change this nickname instead of talking it to death.

All the SBoHE has done is talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk and when they've gotten tired of talking they've whiled away the days and hours with long bouts of hand sitting, vast stretches of butt scratching, and the occasional whimsy of a deadline with no more teeth than a superannuated garter snake.

One cannot respect any participant in this debate. The SBoHE has displayed the sort of strategic insight that one is accustomed to see from headless chickens, one tribe issued a meaningless and unenforceable proclamation, while the other says, "we'd love to talk, as long as we don't have to talk about anything in particular."

The boosters who are threatening to take their money and go home like so many whiny spoiled four year olds, the Ralph Englestad Arena trust which claims to be thoroughly uninvolved in this despite its continual meddling in UND affairs, and the nickname opponents who would embarrass LaRouche Democrats and UFO enthusiasts with some of their conspiracy theories.

Some people have said that this should be turned into a book.

Such an idea is absolutely ludicrous.

Not only is there no hero in this story, there are no villains (except a dead nazi)---in short the only characters are dupes, rubes, wind bags, and thumb twiddlers; and if you think you can get something exciting out of that......

I know several Native Americans and consider them friends, they have no respect for the School or Logo. This is exactly why also

              http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/259524/

anytime you have to do this it shows ZERO respect and is totally sad for a University. Yes I'm a Bison fan but also take pride in any entity that represents North Dakota and honestly right now UND is way off my radar.

You could spoonerize that guy's name into "Fryin' Bison"

At any rate, how is this code of conduct different from any code of conduct at any university event anywhere?

At the start of every SDSU athletic event you get the good sportsmanship disclaimer. Heck, they've got about a 30 foot long poster to that effect in the NE corner of Coughlin.

The story would best fit in the film noir genre. I bet Joel and Ethan Coen could come up with something.

It's certainly more specific than the "Disrespectful conduct will not be tolerated" boilerplate, but it's of the same general intent.

The tip line, though, that -is- interesting, and frankly, I don't think it's a bad idea for any program. Look what happened at Frost during the NDSU VB game, and at the 'Dome during the UNI game----

You guys do realize that's UND's mascot prior to being the Sioux was the flickertails? They changed it sometime in the 1920's. That's probably where any new flickertail talk came from. There's virtually no chance UND would return to the name. Someone was probably overheard joking about it and another person took it seriously.

thats very possible. I said I didn't know if it was a joke or not but was getting the same story from numerous people....

I think what some people also forget at time is how much money it will cost UND short term to switch the name.... I do think it will kill the program long term because a D-I school without a conference are not going to get very far.....

It will cost them a heck of a lot less to change it on their terms than have an outside entity control when it gets changed.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks, but you can never teach a stupid dog anything.

Yep, and the longer they fight, the more it actually will cost, as NO conference in their right mind wants to be involved with them. The GWC is only temporary for most schools and isn't a home.
