Yes, But....

At 8-4, 7-1 tied with UNI for the MVFC, we'd be play-off bound, likely MT.

Missing with more wins -

Liberty - 2 non-counters, bad loss to Presby.
Jax St. - Lost two OT games to EKU/UT-M (played for OVC title)
William & Mary - Solid choice - but finished with 3 losses.
Elon - finished with 2 losses.
SWAC teams (Prairie View A&M) - had two non-counters.
MEAC teams - no "good wins"
Patriot - like Southland, no way.

To me Maine was the only "questionable" choice, but they clearly were one of five in the mix.

I wasn't arguing that at all. With an 8-4 record and a win over SIU we definitely should have been in ahead on Maine. No way to know for sure if we would have. Would SIU have been in? I don't think so, no after they barely got by ISU. Again, we will never know and it doesn't really matter.

No SIU would have been home as the #3 MVFC, only 7 D-I wins (UND was non-counter) and 8-3 total record. Our game at SIU really was for who would be the 2nd team out of the MVFC.

If we had won at SIU and lost at NDSU, then SIU may have been selected over SDSU, or it may have led to only ONE MVFC selection.

IMHO, no way was a 7-5 team going to be selected, unless auto-bid.
