    Re: Conference shuffling continues

I agree they would consider it a move down & I was being somewhat sarcastic. It will be interesting to see how all this movement shakes out. The most interesting dynamic is the combination of Summit & MVC schools that make up the MVFC.

      Re: Conference shuffling continues

You would think that the GWC schools and Longwood would finally get the opportunity to join a conference. The WAC is all but dead, so it would be nice if the GWC could effectively take over the WAC, and get it's auto bid for the schools in the GW. Need a couple of the WAC schools to stay, which is likely to be Idaho and NMSU. Add UVU, UTPA, Chicago St, NJIT and Longwood, and that's a conference with auto-bid in basketball. Could even toss Boise St. into mix for all but football.

Houston Baptist is joining the Southland. Still think UND will end up with the other 3 Dakota schools in a conference.

If, or more likely when, Oakland and IUPUI get the call from the Horizon league how should they reply? Is there an obligation to the other programs to remain in the Summit League? Is a move to the Horizon even advisable at this point? These are tough questions to answer from their perspective.

I am not sure if that is much different then us getting looked at by the MVC which I would guess we would make that jump regardless of where it leaves the summit. In the ever changing world of college confrences, looking out for number one is sadly becoming the only priority for schools to consider.

IUPUI has no shot of getting an invitation from the Horizon. Oakland has a much better chance, but will have some hurdles with the size of their gym and the University of Detroit.

Oakland would jump at the chance to move and not look back. The Horizon provides much better travel and regional rivalries. The AD is already campaining for an invite: http://www.theoaklandpress.com/artic...a201230103.txt

It seems like Northern Kentucky would be a good fit as well.

Don't disagree and I didn't say the call would include an offer.

                    Re: Conference shuffling continues

It's near impossible to keep up with changes in some conferences. I was trying to read about the Mountain West changes and what's left of the Western Athletic Conference. Yesterday (May 4) the MWC made its official announcement about San Jose State and Utah State entering the conference. MWC will then have nine full-time members and 10 football members: San Jose State; Utah State; Air Force Academy; Colorado State University; University of New Mexico, UNLV and the University of Wyoming; Fresno State (joining effective 7/1/12) U of Nevada (joining 7/1/12); and Hawaii is football (7/1/12).

With the official MWC announcement, I think the following is what's left (so far) in the WAC, taking into account announcements made which won't take effect until 2013: Members playing football: Idaho; New Mexico State; Non-football members remaining: Denver; Seattle, Boise State (Boise went Big East in football). There's on-going chatter about Boise State trying to get all sports other than football into the Mountain West but I don't think that's happened.

I'm not confident I have the MWC and WAC lists correct.

I agree, it's pretty hard to follow. Wasn't Boise in the MWC for basketball this year?

Yes. Then they moved their football team to the Big East along with fellow MWC member SDSU - the other one- so BSU moved the rest of its sports back to the WAC and the other SDSU moved the rest of its sports to the Big West
