The statue is gone and now today the NCAA Sanctions. To allow a pedofile to operate and people turn their heads and pretent nothing has happened is a crime. The coach is no longer living but other officals who knew of this activity are and will no doubt will be charged. They need to find good lawyers.

Whether the NCAA Sanctions are affective is a matter of opinion. My opinion is that they are the least that the NCAA can do to make it right with the victims.

Probably about right, IMO. Hopefully there was some lessons learned here..."Hero's" are people that make a difference everyday like GOOD fathers and mothers, not football programs.

      Go Jacks!!
      SDSU...Passionate, Relentless, Champions.

I'm impressed that Penn State signed a consent decree. Apparently they have some good leaders in place. That said, i'm guessing they worked with the NCAA on the sanctions from the beginning.

Lets hope something like this does not happen at SDSU and if it does it is dealt with in a swift manner.

I didn't see any reference to Penn State signing a consent decree...will go back and read the initial reports.

Added: Perhaps you are referring to Penn State having accepted the factual findings in the Freeh report. I'm not finding any source for Penn State having entered into a consent decree with the NCAA. Since Penn State accepted the factual findings in the Freeh report, the NCAA suspended its usual investigation procedures and move straight to punishment phase.

In responding to a reporter, the NCAA president said they signed one.

Listened to press conference and Mark Emmert mentioned that Penn State signed consent decree. Attached SI articles also states that Penn State signed a consent decree. http://tracking.si.com/2012/07/23/nc...?sct=hp_t11_a0

It will be interesting to see what this does to current players and recruits. The vast majority of players are from the PA/NJ and east coast region, but they do pull in players from all across the country. Schools would likely have to have something to offer for kids to transfer, and with it this close to football season, there likely won't be any scholarships available.

I'm not. I would have fought scholarships and postseason ban tooth and nail. It affects the current student athletes thats it. The NCAA just set off a s***storm that they won't be able to control. NCAA despite this being against its rules and for the fact that Penn State didn't actually break any rules, did this for shock factor and thats it. Penn State, should have fought the penalties and agreed to pay the fine and money to the victims thats it. The funniest part of the whole speach was when Mark Emmeret stated, "“Football will never again be placed ahead of educating, nurturing and protecting young people" Isn't that a pot calling a kettle back? What happens when a team decides to fight a penalty leveled by the NCAA and the NCAA gets sued.

So when Reggie Bush accepted improper benefits the NCAA placed sanctions on USC several years later. That affected current student athletes that had nothing to do with it. No different that what just happened here.

Lets just put it like this. NCAA went to a place they had no reason or justification to go to. That also involved student-athletes, where the student-athlets had no bearing or affect on this situation

                            How is this for coincedence:

Penn State's last win is now their 1997 victory over Wisconsin. Starting QB that game? Mike McQueary.

Which student athletes is this so devastating for? The ones who can transfer without penalties, the ones who choose to continue to play for PSU, or the ones who can continue on scholarship for PSU without actually playing football?

This is devastating for the football program at PSU and the fanbase of PSU. The student athletes will be fine.

Current students because transferring after you have been at a program for 2-3 years is counter intuitive and also future student athletes who want an education from Penn State.
