    1. I'm not defending McQueary AT ALL. I have no idea why he hasn't been fired. Maybe he's protected by some whistleblower law. I'm guessing,i don't know.

    2. Who should have followed up on this: a G.A. or the most powerful man on campus?

    3. There are several people who tried hiding things under the rug.

Mmm. I think there's more to it than that investigation and conversation with JoePa. Guy never worked as a coach again--of course maybe that's because, with this Second Mile outfit, he could freely indulge his depravity.

I just don't think that we've heard all there is to hear about what happened around that time.

I saw an article on his retirement. Sandusky is quoted as saying he retired to devote more time to The Second Mile Organization. Yikes

I guess I dont know why it matters if he is the most powerful/popular man on campus. He didnt see it. I hold the eye witness and his testimony he can give would be on the hot seat more then anyone else.

I am going to wait until McQuery and JoePa talk publicly both claim to want to talk. Well I want to listen. To make exact judgement on what they should have done.

Yes, something should have been done, but there is a reason these serial child malesters, murders, rapist, etc are allowed to become serial. Generally they are the person you least suspect. Looking at this if it was so well known, many other people should have known

As far as the people who say if I was in the same shoes I would have done X. Please stop, you don't know what you would have done, and just be thankful that you have never been in that situation. It is easy to sit on the sidelines and say this guy is bad because I would have done it different. You don't know what you would have done, I would like to think I would have done something different, but I don't know, and I never want to be put into that situation.

I don't know what I would've done on the spot, but I can't imagine not calling the police afterward. How could you not? How could you live with yourself during the week leading up to the interview with Curley & Schultz, knowing that nothing had been done because the police hadn't contacted you? Wouldn't that just gnaw at you day by day?

Maybe it has gnawed at him every day since and he's lived in a personal hell. We'll have to wait and see what he has to say. This situation is a disaster and a tragedy all around. Like Zimmer said, there aren't words enough to describe the sadness.

On another note, I watched the Board of Trustees press conference last night and kept thinking that the Board is losing control. The guy they ran out there to answer questions looked like a fool and the guys yelling at him looked foolish as well. Just a circus.

I'm not saying that he's been okay with himself since, I don't see how a normal human could be. What I can't understand, placing myself in his shoes, is convincing myself that telling JoePa was enough.

I'm sure as he saw Sandusky time and time since, it must've gnawed at him; I'm sure that as the years went by it would be harder and harder to do the right thing and face the criticism that would come: "why didn't you say something last year/2 years ago/5 years ago/8 years ago." etc. I'm sure that he kept hoping that someone else would catch Sandusky and keep him from being involved.

I can account for human frailty, but only up to a point.

                  ----

And the Board of Trustees have handled this terribly. The press conference, the firing by phone. They haven't lived up to their responsibilities either.

they were saying on a local radio show today that it must have been going on for a while and people knew because they had an ice cream cone called the Sandusky. two scoops of ice cream on a cone flipped upside down in a bowl to represent an area of the male human anatomy.

YES.... I've made that known, the thing to understand about grand jury testimony is that they are only answering the questions asked. Did they know more, did they press the AD more, did they make more calls up the latter, did they talk about this outside of the realm. That is what I am saying. What was exactly reported from McQuery to Paterno. They are not subject to the Grand Jury so they were only asked what they saw, and the initial process of sending it up the ladder. In court they will be asked about more then what they saw/heard and what they did initially. Or at least I think they will be.

Personally I don't know what I would have done in the situation, but I probably would have at least followed it up (or like to think I would) with JoePA and the AD. Would have went to the AD with JoePA. If nothing was being done I don't know what I would have done. If you are running it up the ladder and they are clearing it, maybe you start questioning what you saw.

There are more shoes to drop. Rumors are Sandusky was pimping those boys to other generous donors to Second Mile and PSU football. With these things going on, your word about witnessing a crime would have been totally ignored and possibly you would be fearing for your life. The DA that was on to Sandusky has never been found but declared dead is a good example. Some of this money may not be clean. So the drama continues.

Right. But Sandusky was reckless. He was caught in the act multiple times (that we know of), starting in 1998. He seems to have used Penn State's football facilities as his playground. My guess is that this stuff didn't start in 1998. And no doubt more victims, and more instances where he was caught, will emerge.

This suggests there were plenty of indications that Sandusky was a predator prior to 1998.

                                Re: Penn State

I sat on a Grand Jury that among other cases had to deal with a child rape case. An uncle, known to be "overly friendly" with children was left to babysit and did unspeakable things to a very young niece and nephew. He was caught only because a sheriff's deputy checked out the car parked just off the county highway. In testimony to the Grand Jury, family members and friends all corroborated prior suspicions that this person was a pedophile.

My points. First, people involved with these cases tend to underestimate the situation because it is truly unthinkable. Second, prosecuting these cases is a horrible, draining task which can result in under prosecuting to get it over with. I still think about those two little children and weep. Please be judicious in your judgment of all involved but Sandusky.
