Texas A&M had lost to Baylor 3 times already this season, ND had lost to UConn twice.

Tough to beat a good team that many times in a season.

Well they lost, but I'm not sure if a Final Four loss to a 2 seed is saying "The Mighty have Fallen".

We could all hope to fall so far.

Yes losing to a determined conference opponent, in the final four, you should be still a top 4 or 5 opponent to start next year.

So will VCU be an AP top 5 team in the final poll even though they were roundly critized by the pundits for even being selected? Butler, from the one-bid Horizon league.

Great when new teams come in, and have success.

I tend to be over dramatic sometimes.

I think maybe they should get some top 25 votes, but I don't think they are one of the top 25 teams in the country.

How can you say that? They pounded Kansas and beat teams from how many top conferences, and they have what appears to be one of the better young coaches in the country.

5 games does not mean they are one of the best teams in the country. It means they were one of the best for those 5 games. They didn't even win their conference, which was 10th best in the country in RPI. They got hot for 5 games and shot well above their season average from 3 and defended WELL above their season averages from 3. They got hot at the right time, which is awesome. I was cheering for them hard. But they are not one of the top 25 teams in the country; I judge it based on the entire season, not just 5-6 games.

I would judge them the same way that the chair of the women's selection committee noted (although she and her compatriots didn't follow through IMO). She said they wanted to see how the teams played the second half of the season, because they wanted teams in the playoffs who were playing well in the last 10-12 games of the season, not how they played in the first part of the season. On that basis, I think you could say that Butler is definitely a top 25 team. They would get my vote, if not yours, for putting everything together and kicking the "better" teams when it counted.

I would put Butler in the top 25. Not VCU.

And if anyone that watched the game tonight thinks those are the two best teams in the country, they are nuts. That's why the tournament is awesome, it only takes 1 game. In the NBA, you have to beat a team 4 out of 7 so the better team usually wins. Here's a great story about it: http://joeposnanski.si.com/2011/04/0...ness-of-march/

Joe Posnanski is one of the best in the business. His baseball writing is top notch.
