    Re: Economic Development In Brookings

I was told Jimmie Johns Sandwich Shop is now open. It is next to Radio Shack. I will have to check them out soon.

You should. My opinion is Jimmie Johns is the best sub shop. First experienced Jimmy Johns while going to school in Milwaukee. Jimmie Johns was close to UWM and Marquette campuses and where a favorite among students.

Where was that one, if you don't mind my asking? It's been several years since I was down there. Are you talking about RMH or St. Mary's?

Just to the west of RMH right across the street. Opened in late 2005.

There will hopefully be an AmericInn just behind the Staroulite Inn come this time next year. Been told it will be about 162 or so room with a pool and maybe a restuarant in it.

I noticed some blocks were laid in the area south of Lowes, and it appears work has stopped. Could this be the American Inn?

That was a failed attempt at getting a casino in Brookings, Lowe's did not like that they would have to use their parking lot to gain access to the casino so they had construction stopped.

                      Re: Economic Development In Brookings

The Arby's in town opened up. The line for drive through last night was about 20 cars long, and extended onto sixth street. I'm hearing the lines inside go to the back wall. With the way people are acting, you would think it was 5-star dining.

I'll wait a month or two and let the initial wave of people subside before I frequent the establishment. Arby's is good but it ain't that good!!!

Bravo's (Godfather's Building) is also now open. Has anybody ate there? Any reviews?

I can confirm the 20-car long line at the drive through last night at Arby's. I drove by and wondered what was going on.

Bravo's opened up a few weeks ago. I was there the first Friday night it opened. The staff was obviously stressed and the service reflected that. It wasn't bad but it has room for improvement.

The food we had was okay. I was expecting a little more considering the price.

The positive was the atmosphere as they have done a really nice job gutting the building and making it into a nice place to sit down and eat. I would classify it as an upscale sports bar since it has nice flat-panel TVs throughout the building yet their menu is trying to be that of a nice restaurant.

I will definitely be going back and I would recommend people go and give it a try. Compared to the other sit-down establishments in Brookings, it is par for the course.

Ya i just went to Arby's this afternoon, even at 1:30 the line was long but it was well worth it of couse. I went to Bravo's with blue last friday and i'll agrree the staff was busy and stressing but things will calm down i'm sure. the bar was nice with those flat screen tv's.

                            Re: Economic Development In Brookings

Just had lunch at Bravo's and have eaten there several other times.

The menu is excellent with lots of unique items and a great variety. Dinner starts around $13 and goes up to $27. They incude salad and bread with olive oil to dip in which is a nice touch.

The food has been great but I have to agree with others on the kinks with the staff. That is to be expected at first and since they have only been open less than three weeks I can give that a pass.

The atmosphere is excellent. The bar has a great selection of beer and one of the better wine lists I have seen in a while. There is no liquor since our f'ed up system won't allow for another liquor license.

This place will serve the need for a more upscale restaurant in Brookings. It is very much worth the trip!

I haven't had the pleasure of trying Bravos yet. Advice to the managers, hire more staff, pay the good ones what they are worth and make sure service is at its best even if that requires a lot more investment up front. Well worth it in the long run. Doesn't matter how good the food is if its slow, wrong, or served without a smile. Living in Rochester, MN a lot of new places opened up over the last 10 years. The ones who tried to scim on service really struggled regardless of their reputation elsewhere or even the quality of their food. Those that focused on service seemed to excel. I'm no food service expert but as a frequent customer, get the service up to par or business will suffer.

I remember when I was in 7th grade the Lil' Feller (C-Store) opened up in Miller. Every middle school and many of the high school students went there for lunch. You would have swore they were giving food away rather than selling microwaveable food. But of course this was the early 80's and it was the first convenience store in Miller.
