Re: USD to allow booze in dorms

Pretty certain alcohol sales not allowed on campus

    35-2-6.1. State educational
institutions--License to operate on campus prohibited--Exceptions--"Campus"
    defined. No on-sale or
off-sale license may be granted under this title to operate on the campus of any
state educational institution. However, if the outside boundary of any state
educational institution is extended this section does not apply to any license
granted previous to the extension. The provisions of this section do not apply
to the school for the deaf established by chapter 13-62. For the purpose of this
section, "campus" shall mean only the area immediately surrounding the buildings
used for classrooms, administrative offices, athletic facilities, and
    housing.

This article states that the BOR voted to allow each institution to set their own policy towards alchohol.

If I'm not mistaken, the ban -- at least in its current form -- began with the start of the fall semester in 1984 (my freshman year). I remember visiting friends in the dorms at the u and at Dakota State while I was in high school. Alcohol was allowed in the dorms then. I also recall hearing lots of stories from upper classmen during my freshmen year in Pierson Hall about how out of hand weekends got before the fall of '84 and about what large damage fees were assessed each resident for damages in common areas due to all the partying. Maybe my memory is slipping, but that's the way I remember it.

I was 100 mi NW of that location in '79. Dorms there allowed no adult beverage at that time. Appears the various institutions became dry at different times.
