South Dakota High School Football Championships

I don't know about you, but I'm sick of all the talk/gloating/whining about the Events Center Vote. It's over. It's done. Get on with your life.

With that in mind....

The 2011 South Dakota High School Football Championships start Thursday and continue through Saturday at the Dakotadome... Let's have some fun and pick the winners!

THURSDAY:
2:30 p.m. - 11A Championship: Dell Rapids (10-1) vs. West Central (10-1)
7:30 p.m. - 11B Championship: Tri-Valley (11-0) vs. McCook Central/Montrose (10-1)

FRIDAY:
11:00 a.m. - 9B Championship: Waverly-South Shore (11-0) vs. Avon (10-1)
2:30 p.m. - 9A Championship: Canistota (11-0) vs. Wall (11-0)
7:30 p.m. - 9AA Championship: Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan (10-1) bs. Kimball/White Lake (9-2)

SATURDAY:
7:30 p.m. - 11AA Championship: Sioux Falls Roosevelt (10-1) vs. Sioux Falls Washington (9-2)


My Predictions...

11A: Dell Rapids... but West Central won't make it easy.
11B: McCook Central/Montrose... they've played giant-killers all throughout the playoffs-I don't see them stopping at the Dome.
9B: Avon... More experience in the Dome will carry the Pirates.
9A: Canistota... Hawks have not given up a point since last month's regular-season game versus Chester. This is a damn good defense... and the offense is okay too.
9AA: Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan... both dome-experienced teams, but the Seahawks is the only team to play Canistota close all year long.
11AA: SF Washington... toughie here. I'm calling this the "Kim Nelson Bowl", but Washington will get the win.

JR1, you should be concerned. Our picks are very similar and mine usually stink. There are some good teams left with some great athletes. I can't wait to watch them this weekend.

I dont know enough about the other classes so I will stick with what I know and go washington. I know coach Nelson from his time at WHS and his problem was figuring out how the win the big games. He has won 2 very intense playoff games. Can he get 3 in a row. My guess not. WHS has the mind set that will carry them to the win.

Without knowing a thing about any of the teams:

WC - because everyone is picking Dells
MCM - because everyone is picking T-V.
Avon - because my mom used to sell avon.
Wall - because they have 5cent coffee and free water.
BEE - because Bridgewater Emery/Ethan is more fun to say than Kimball/White Lake
Wash - because I know one of the athletic trainers on their staff.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Cole Langer in a Jackrabbit uniform in a couple of years. He's had to deal with groin injury this year that's hampered his play, but the kid is a legit D-I talent. Plus his mom, dad and grandpa are all State graduates.
