I have a hard time believing SDSU will sign anymore WR in this class unless they plan on a position change.

Darshon McCullough decommitted from the Jacks. Has a visit to Eastern Illinois this weekend. Looks like he is leaning to EIU.

So many factors in recruiting were evident in the posts from this week. It is a testament to what the coaches have been able to do year after year to get the quality recruiting classes that we do. Take note on the following recruits we posted about this week.

Monday: Braydon Allen, TE from Missouri commits to Jackrabbits. His tweet says a lot: "Blessed to say I have committed to South Dakota State University." Coach Stig and numerous of his assistants are high character men of faith. We often do well recruiting young athletes with strong character. Granted, no class is perfect and we all fall short with our actions in regards to the Man upstairs.

Monday: Thomas Stacker, DT from Chicago commits to Jackrabbits. Here is a recruit that does not have the publicity that most recruits even at an NAIA level have - a Rivals, Scout or 24/7 page promoting them. Four of our verbal commitments do not have these high profile web sites tracking them. This shows commitment to recruiting beyond the office door from our coaches. It is so easy for us to evaluate talent to a certain degree using websites, but there is no replacement for having a strong network of trusted sources that will give you insight on potential recruits that may go under the radar. BULLDOG has been much maligned for his touting of recruits in NW Iowa, but it is people like him that may give insights on recruits like VG that we miss. We also need to cut the staff some slack when they may miss on recruits like this, they are not perfect.

Monday: Jacob Bacon, OT from Minnesota is reported to have visited over the weekend. We need more beef (pork in this case) in this recruiting class and he fills the bill. We can all speculate why he has not made a decision, but there are many reasons.

Tuesday: Two running backs, Xavior Williams from Iowa and Tolu Ogunrinde from the Twin Cities both verbal to UNI. Here are two very good recruits that the Jackrabbits would have loved to sign earlier in this recruiting class. However, we were fortunate to get a verbal from Blair Mullholland from Wisconsin last summer and we have a stable full of talented running backs. Potential recruits recognize this and we may not be offering as much with this need all ready filled.

Tuesday: DE recruit, Sonny Onken from Iowa is reported to tweet two more offers from MVFC schools. What makes news on this board is that he tweeted how pleased he was with UNI that they are also offering a COA. Can you say 'show me the money?' Coaches have so much to consider with recruits, unfortunately some of it is made known publically with social media.

Wednesday: LB Price Morgan from Kansas commits to Air Force. Here's a high quality recruit that got away. It happens. He had plenty of suitors and he had the chance to be part of an exceptional institution (Air Force) and gets an opportunity to play for an FBS school. Good for him!

Wednesday: Safety/DB/RB Noah Clayberg from Iowa receives accolades and press, everyone is asking why he hasn't received more offers than just SDSU and Western Illinois. Here is an incredible athlete and a big time winner who also just received Iowa's Gatorade POY designation. The question most Power Five schools are wrestling with is what position do you put him at and he's from a small town, can he make it at that level. He obviously has a strong interest in playing for the home state Hawkeyes, but do you pass up full-rides at quality programs like SDSU/Western Illinois? Maybe he is hoping for a late offer with last minute recruiting changes or from a vacated scholarship from a transfer? Clayberg is good and will get his reward, he's just being patient.

Thursday: Arizona WR, Jake Welsheimer verbal's to Augustana. Quality player that may have had two things working against him - higher profiled or more talented recruits getting the full offers, our WR recruiting class is full. Good for Jake to still get a great education and still play at the highest level of DII.

Thursday: Briley Moore, WR from Missouri commits to UNI. Numbers game again. Very talented, big receiver - but SDSU's WR class is full. Dollar late, day short. Hope he doesn't haunt us in the years to come.

Thursday: Darshon McCullough, DB from Chicago decommits. Tough to lose this one, but he has other choices. Maybe he wants to be a RB or maybe just closer to home. Regardless, recruits decommitting from a perennial FCS power to potentially playing for a quality school from an arguably lesser conference doesn't happen very often.

College football coaching is a tough job that commands many more hours than a conventional career. Many of these coaches work at a significant discount versus other career choices. Reminds me how important it is to support your SDSU coaches! Be a part of the Difference Makers club, share insights about potential recruiting gems with the coaching staff, and cheer your butts off at all games that you can attend.

Tweet from former UNI commit Tolu Ogunrinde. He had said earlier he was down to UNI, USD and SDSU.
