Enrollment figures usually appear in early October, but not too soon to start guessing. Last year we were at 11,995 (head count). Closest to the actual figure earns the admiration of your peers.
Since I been in ND for the past few days I heard these numbers on the radio. How is it that these number can be released right away and down in SD we have to wait until October. I know the BOR meets in October, but I really can not see any harm in releasing preliminary numbers as they do in ND.

The numbers fluctuate wildly during the first couple of weeks of the semester. Students drop and add classes, meaning the FTE numbers change by the second (literally). Students enroll late or drop out early during the first few weeks. I'm sure the regents wait until October so they can have some firm numbers that are useful for annual and long-term comparisons.
