JackJD - I already explained my statement about Fred not at the Summit.

It was discussed on this site during and/or shortly after the tourney that he was indeed in attendance but not in an official capacity. People on here talked about how it would be nice to honor him in some way as this was our first D1 tourney in the state, etc. And I happen to agree with that.

When I have time I'll try and dig up that post.

RO is right about the general nature of an internet message board: they have the potential to get pretty rough and tumble.

On the second point, I respectifully disagree. I do not view it so much as an issue about the application of formal logic. (The worst person in the world may think in a logical manner; some of mankind's best acts fly in the face of what makes logical sense.) This is an issue about credibility and how much weight one should give to what another person is saying or, in this case, suggesting by "honest questions". Not really an analogy but just a related point taken from the place where I spend a little time: When it appears a witness has testified falsely in court, a common jury instruction given in courtrooms advises: "If you believe that any witness testifying in this case has knowingly sworn falsely to any material matter in this case, then you may reject all of the testimony of the witness." The instruction has roots dating back 100s of years. Even has its own name Falsus in uno; falsus in omnibus.)

When I see a question which is also a statement that Dr. Oien was not at the Summit League Tourney, I know that's a load of Bison excrement: I said hello to Dr. Oien at the Summit League Tourney. I am critical of those types of "questions" because they suggest something false that implies something negative.

Now, on TV's article, I don't have a lot of heartburn about the Argus having run the story and what TV wrote. My initial reaction remains unchanged: pretty bland stuff and nothing new. Had the article come out back in January or February, it would have had a lot more sizzle for readers, I suppose, and so I am thankful for the timing because I think its impact on SDSU will be minimal and short-lived.

Your second point is very Spock-esque.

This is an opinion board and even if I don't agree I respect the opinion of the person. I also appreciate the fact that people are on here talking about State.

So there really was no issue w/ Fred at all, it's just a conspiracy by the Argus Leader.

I not so sure its a conspiracy but the sports department of the Argus seems to be chasing their own tail and in the process they are bringing up stuff that is about as relevent as your comments about your perfect family life.

It's such a conspiracy that Stu comes out and cites it as one of the things the story is about.

Please explain to me how the above is not a motive by the Argus editors for running the story, given what appears to me to be a very clear and plain statement from one of those editors that it is in fact one of their motives?

My opinion, based on the Stu quote above is that it is in fact the main editorial reason for the article, which otherwise falls generally into the category of old news.

I am content to let you disagree with how much of a factor this was in the editorial decision to run the story, but the plain fact, stated by Stu himself, is that it was one of the motives.

The people who were close to Fred are easy to spot on this topic.

I am loyal (does it help that just 20 minutes ago I was outside unwrapping my SDSU banner from around the pole from which it hangs?)....but I'm not blindly loyal. I like the Dallas Cowboys but could not cheer for T.O.

I have not "flogged" Dr. Oien and certainly not the entire SDSU administration. You want to give him a free pass, fine.

So what's the problem with a free pass for Dr.Oien? I think he has earned it.

Not knowing about the "official" $30 SDSU sticker I bought the organizational plates and ordered SDSU stickers from the bookstore. It's the old blue and yellow SD logo but it's bigger and more noticeable that the "official" one. Cheaper too, I think the stickers were $4

The decals allow nonprofit organizations throughout South Dakota to raise additional funds for their organizations by charging members an additional fee for the decal. . . .

Please affix the plates to your automobile. Organization License Plates are different than regular plates because they have a 3" x 3" square space designated for the decals. . . . (read more)

I see a bunch of people doing the same thing, they are in violation of state law. There is a guy down the street from me who ordered the organizational plates and then went and put stickers with his initials on the plates. My opinion, lame.

My concern, law enforcement complains about a few violators and the solution via the lawmakers is no more organizational plates. I hope that doesn't happen. So, if you are in violation is suggest you become compliant and use a sticker approved by the state.

Not sure where you get the perfect family life stuff. Maybe I'll send you a personal message at some point and share some of the struggles my family has been through.

Great. State government, in an attempt to allow non-profit groups to raise money for their organizations, provides a unique way (via license plates) for that to happen. What happens? Well, non-compliant types figure out ways to beat the system. Yeah, the program will go away because there are some folks who have a knack for always trying to find ways to break the rules...wrecking it for everyone else.

So what's the problem with a free pass for Dr.Oien? I think he has earned it.

I don't think that dedicated service to a place that hands you a check every two weeks in return gives you free reign, especially when you're a state employee representing and entire university and in part, an entire state.

I'm jusy asking for a grown man to be accountable. That's all.

Thanks for the link 89. When I purchased my plates I went on the internet right trying to find the official place to get the stickers (I didn't even know for sure if there were official stickers). Couldn't find them so I went the other route. My are just like the "official" ones save for the words around the SD logo.

Any chance South Dakota makes a whole, colored plate dedicated to SDSU like Iowa does for the 'clones and Hawks?

I don't want to pick a fight or anything, but your decals are not "just like the "official" ones", they are not legal because they are not sanctioned by South Dakota law. They are too large and do not benefit an approved nonprofit organization. They conform to neither the spirit nor the letter of the law.

on it, you will find this link for the Organization Decal Guide. (The guides are available in print form at all county treasurer offices.)

This provides all the approved nonprofit organizations that have decals and how to get them (click on South Dakota State University).

If you want to be legal you should replace your counterfeit decals with genuine and legal decals by contacting the Alumni Association.

Finally, as you can see from this site South Dakota doesn't have an option like Iowa.
