Re: New Dairy Plant
It is awesome to see SDSU and private industry continue to invest in its dairy program. The dairy industry has witnessed major changes since I left our farm in the early 80's and the I-29 corridor is one of the premier areas for dairy production.
Last Saturday, I helped host a site visit for a potential dairy in Nebraska. I had a friend of mine who owns a large dairy share their thoughts on Nebraska as a place to locate a dairy. He and his brother moved their dairy from Virginia nearly 15 years ago. While he really likes Nebraska, he has told me on a couple of occasions that eastern South Dakota is the place to be. The combination of water supply, land availability, feed stocks, markets, and industry support are second to none.
The only thing that would make the investment in infrastructure at SDSU better is to support the faculty. If something doesn't change in faculty pay soon, we may not be able to keep world class staff.
