Re: SDSU Athletic Facilities Master Plan is now online
That is fun to look at. And interesting to think of the number of items in that document that are already in place or in progress: Dykhouse SA Center, New Lockers rooms and such in the Hyper Center, Baseball and Softball fields, Equestrian Center.
But the one that really gives me the chills (in a good way) is the model for football stadium improvements built around the Dykhouse building. I can't wait for these improvements to be done.

I had the same impressions regarding how much has been accomplished and what is ahead. Looking at that old CAS scoreboard tells you how far we have come. I too think the proposed improvements to CAS should be a priority as there is the biggest potential return on investment. I believe, however the Multi-Sport Indoor Practice Facility will be the next facility to focus on, because it benefits so many athletes and sports.

There was discussion on the Missouri State forum as to the conference's worst stadium. When I last checked, CAS was winning hands down. House trailer on top of a high school stadium was the phrase most used, I believe.
ps-- went back and found the post:
"OK. I stand corrected! That place is terrible.
Thats not a press box its a trailer attached to the top of a High School stadium"

Can't disagree with that. The pressbox is terrible and the stadium needs a lot of upgrades. CAS should be the focal point IMHO. That said, I still love watching a FB game at that place.
I've been roaming the east sidelines for years and I expect that option to disappear very soon, maybe this year. Its "small time" to allow it but I must admit I love it. I usually by a GA ticket and give my season ticket to one of my wife's friends. I'll definitely miss it when it goes away.

We may have a facility that needs improvement, but Missouri State did not bring much of a program to Brookings last fall. Its stands to reason that since they get the crap beaten out of them on the field, then all there is left to be complain about the facility. Really was not much of a game. How long as MSU been D1? Seems like awhile, and why did they have such a poor team?
Re: SDSU Athletic Facilities Master Plan is now online
Coming from Missouri these people would know all about trailer houses. Ok maybe that was too far...I apologize to anyone living in a trailer house for associating them with people that are from Missouri.
(My apologies to Filbert if you live in MO, not directed at you, we all love KC!)
Re: SDSU Athletic Facilities Master Plan is now online
Honestly, I don't think it requires "outside experts" to tell us we have a few sore spots associated with CAS. In the grand scheme of things (facility improvements at several venues, additional scholarships, increased travel, etc.) SDSU has done a remarkable job. And our leaders (Chicoine, Sells, Foundation) are constantly seeking out individuals and businesses to make major improvements. We've come a long ways and still have a ways to go. But, we are getting there.
I wouldn't trade our place with any of those "finger pointers".
Re: SDSU Athletic Facilities Master Plan is now online
I think the really tough question is how will SDSU ever fund a new stadium that has to cost in excess of $30 million? It's going to take several major donations to get there and you can't continue to go back to the usual contributors and the city of Brookings just doesn't have the resources to tap into especially with the request for paying a share of the enhanced Performing Arts Center and whatever debt they have with the Swiftel Center.

IMO, either the ADept. is going to need a "whale" of a donor come in or the SD BOR is going to have to loosen up on their..."all new D-1 funds must come from fundraising" attitude. I just can't believe that the SDBOR is blind to the positives that the D-1 move has brought to the campus as a whole at SDSU in the past 5 years.
Also, at some point the current and future student populations at SDSU is going to have to help out, just like at "most" D-1 schools, if there is ever going to be a new CAS.
I'm hoping that if anything positive comes out of USD going D-1 is that the SDBOR has double pressure put on it to change it's attitudes towards funding for D-1 athletics for the State's two largest Universities.
Regarding our friends from Springfield, observing that CAS needs serious improvement is rather like noting that the sun rises in the east.
The thing is that SDSU has a plan for athletic facilities, and is executing on the plan as rapidly as the funding permits.
This is the way I look at it. I haven't been to most of the stadiums but CAS is subpar. I don't know how I'd rank it with just the stadiums in SD. It's sad when a NAIA school has a better place to play football.
SDSU is working on the baseball, softball, equestrian, Frost and other places. I think most of those projects are getting closer to being done. SDSU can move on to other projects.
I might be a little hard on CAS but I'm sure it's subpar compared to most FCS schools. Then again, SDSU just moved there and it will be improved soon.

Woah, let's hold the boat for a second. Have you been to USF's new stadium??? It's new...but's that's about it.
As far as Augie's new stadium, it very nice, but let's talk apples to apples here instead of apples to oranges. Have fun getting 17K fans into their new stadium.
Considering the DSAC cost about $6-$8 Million to build and Augie's WHOLE stadium cost around the same...you can only imagine what a new CAS is going to cost that will hold a possible 25K with box/suite seating.
There's no other atmosphere in the State that even remotely compares to CAS on a Sept/Oct Saturday. I don't care what it "looks" like.
I'm all for a new CAS ASAP, but just get a little annoyed lately when someone who hasn't even been to a game at CAS in 10 years tries to say we have the 3rd or 4th best Stadium in SD...BS.
