  • Mylo Hellickson named interim AD

I posted this in the Oien thread, then figured it's significant enough to warrant its own thread.

Mylo Hellickson, long-time faculty rep to athletics has been named acting AD by President Chicoine, effective Monday.

The search committee for finding Dr. Oien's replacement has also been named. Lots of excellent people there as well. I'll let the upcoming university news release name them for you.

I think Mylo is the perfect choice to lead the department through this transition period. He knows athletics as well as anybody on campus, he's an experienced administrator, and a good guy. Along with the excellent staff that remains in place, everything should progress just fine until a new AD arrives on campus.
    Holy nutmeg!

Bump. Maybe the moderators can decide whether this should be its own thread, or part of the Oien thread.

      Deserves it own thread IMO.

Good call by President Chicoine. Mylo is a quality individual who knows his way around the athletic deparment.

I doubt there is anyone on campus as qualifed to be interim than Mr Helleckson.. As Terry pointed out in his article, he has been really involved as a faculty rep and no doubt knows the conference staff for both conferences. Plus President Chicoine was also faculty rep at at Illinois, so he no doubt knows what its all about. We got good leadership so nothing is going to go sour. If I am wrong, come here and tell me so.

I for one will not be losing sleep about matters following between the cracks with Fred retirement and the new AD coming on board.

              All part of the transition.

Dr. Oien told me a story that Mr. Harry Forsyth told him when he first started as AD. I don't have it verbatim, but Harry told Fred that a good manager hires the right people, then sits in his chair and brainstorms about the future. Essentially, if you do the work ahead of time by hiring great people, you don't have to clean up messes.

That place has great people running it, so Mylo (who was viewed as much a part of the department as anyone else even though he did work in it) will let the folks do their job, and just try to steer it straight.

Mr and Mrs Hellickson are rabbits through and through.
