Can anyone tell me who the POC is for GoJacks at the school? Neither of the coach's shows were put up this week. Game videos for last weekends volleyball and football have not been posted. It may be a little too early, but the winter sports media day has also not been posted. Am I expecting too much?

There is no video from the media day because I wasn't informed until this week that it was happening and already had other things scheduled.
A little context: I'm a journalism professor who does all of the video production for athletics on the side as a volunteer. I do my best, but it's not always possible, given that I have 280 students in my classes, to get everything done. I spend perhaps 25 hours a week on athletics video production. And that's in addition to my real job. And as an added bonus, I'm working on videos for the Festival of Champions, which is a huge additional job that I'll be spending the entire weekend on this week.
Add to that the reality of a staffing shortage in athletics. They're always very busy and especially when sports seasons overlap as they do at this time of year, and you have a whole bunch of people doing the best they can but now and then a few things fall through the cracks. Mark Burgers and Laura Jacobs are working on all of the usual stuff AND on Festival of Champions right now. Plus, I think the SID office is short-staffed because of an illness. The search is on to hire Micah Grenz's replacement but they haven't hired anybody for that position yet. Laura is filling in as best she can, but she's a grad assistant.
In short: It's a tough time of year and we try to get everything done, but it just doesn't always happen. I apologize for that.Holy nutmeg!

Your volunteer efforts and those of the athletic department are greatly appreciated. We're fortunate to have access to as much as we do as fans and look forward to each new video that we have access to. Knowing how the athletic department operates I would expect that they are doing all they can to thank you for you efforts as well. Keep up the great work. No need to apologize.I updated my signature for the first time in six years.

Re: GoJacks
Since the topic of updating GoJacks has been brought up, I would like to see the Athletic Development/Facilities page updated. We have a HUGE project (Dykhouse Center) in construction, and there is currently no information about it on the website. It has been a while since we have had a big athletic project like this on campus, and I think that we need to be showing that off ... or at least make it visable.
p.s. I almost forgot all of the renovations currently in progress on Frost too.

Re: GoJacks
JJ, thanks for explaining that. I thought that part of the subscription fees went to the production efforts. Thanks also for volunteering your time to make these shows available. Since you didn't get a chance to video the media day, does anyone know if the media is going to do write ups for the teams? I know TV did one for the mens bball. I am disappointed in the Athletic Department that they didn't get this done. The whole point of the effort is to get maximum exposure for the different programs.
Is there a class/club that can get students involved to help with these efforts? Something like a video production class or internet journalism in the modern age? Thanks again JJ - I do appreciate the extra time and effort you give to Jackrabbit nation.

In the meantime, I know the Athletic Department is looking for students to help with game productions for sports other than football and basketball. Daktronics/Keyframe provides the camera and production people for football and basketball. But they're always looking for people to help with other things. Volleyball is almost over, but next year they'll need students to run cameras at those events. And I know there's an interest in streaming and broadcasting (tape delay on Mediacom) wrestling.
I should have mentioned the student opportunities. Thanks to JackFlash for reminding me.

Re: GoJacks
JJ, Is there any chance that the coach's shows and matches from last week will get posted? Thanks - And if you need anything else to do, let me know What's more, in the words of the immortal Carl Spackler... No, no, no no, there will be no money, but on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness (and a bottle of your favorite brown water next time I hit Brookville). So you got that going for you, which is nice.

Re: GoJacks
Although it has already been said by earlier posters, let me add the following: JimmyJack is a godsend to SDSU and SDSU athletics. He has done an incredible job with his students, and he spends an inordinate amount of personal time doing videos, etc. The Festival of Champions job alone is almost a full-time effort for several weeks. THANKS JJ...you are absolutely amazing!!!!
