South Dakota State University is represented by 53 student-athletes on the Academic All-Summit League Team, which was announced Thursday.

In all, 423 student-athletes from the 10 Summit League institutions received Academic All-League honors from the sports of men's and women's soccer, men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball. SDSU's 53 selections ranked third among league members, trailing Western Illinois' 62 selections and Oakland's 61 honorees.

The Jackrabbit women's soccer team led SDSU with 21 selections to the team, followed by 15 honorees from women's cross country. Ten Jackrabbit volleyball players received recognition, with the men's cross country team contributing seven honorees.

Someone (screenname Rich) made a very good point about the All-Academic Fall Summit League teams. We were 3rd overall but Rich's comments bring out something worth mentioning on here:

Jacks also put in a very respectful showing on the Summit League Fall all-academic team.

They put 53 players on the all-academic team, without fielding a men’s soccer program. WIU put 62 players on the team, and Oakland 61, but if you exclude their men’s soccer players, both finished behind SDSU.
