Any news on this? I have not read anything or seen any posts. Hopefully we can hire some one soon. The summer Alumni Events are starting in May. It would be wise to have this person at these "Meet and Greets".

Re: SDSU Alumni Director
I was on the Alumni Council several years back, but haven't had much contact since VJ left. If I remember correctly, hiring of the director procedures follows those of other hirings of key people on campus. A committee is formed to accept resumes. The committee then trims the volume of resumes to finalists and they then interview. The last time around the committee was pretty much in agreement that they wanted VJ so it did not take as long. This time it appears to be a completely different ball game. I suspect they are still interviewing. Its probably a salary cut for qualified candidate from the outside work force be they alumni or not. Maybe salary might be a reason for not coming to an agreement so far in terms of hiring. Just speculating. If you called Barb Koeners she might be able to tell you something, but I suspect everything is still pretty much under wraps for now. Barb is the acting director BTW. Another source of an update may be a current alumni council member.
I do know the president and the alumni director in the past often travel together so maybe President Chicoine might have a strong voice here too in the selection process. The Alumni director is a key person from the Presidents point of view. That I know first hand.
I feel to have sufficient preferred parking for football games this fall is probably as important as the new alumni director being on board for meets and greets. People have been sold on preferred parking as being a benefit for giving 300 or 400 dollars donations. If thats not available when they come to park, then there is going to be a bad taste that will take more than a few backyard refreshments to wash down. The entire institution as a whole suffers from this kind of disappointments. They rarely happen.
Sure the disappointed donors can park in the Union lot and walk over, but not every one is 21 either and have a spring in their walk. I am sure Dr Oien is thinking about the parking problem as the Alumni Council is thinking about the vacancy of a permanent director. Also with a new president, I think meets and greets probably give the president all the attention that he should deserve. Later the new director and president can make another round of meets and greets.

At the Canaries game I was told that the interview process was completed and an offer was being made. We may know by the end of this week.
