In the past people have posted info about our mascot, the Jackrabbit. I found it troubling that the descriptions didn't resemble our mascot at all. I knew there had to be more to the story and I had some time to kill before the spring football game so this is what I found out.
Most people have posted about the Black-tailed Jackrabbit who is native to the desert southwest of the US and parts of Mexico. Their range is from Texas to Cailifornia. They are Brown and Black in Color with a black tail.
Our Mascot is a White-tailed Jackrabbit who is native to the Northern Great Plains, Southern Canada and to the west slope of the Rocky Mts. White-tailed Jackrabbits are grayish-brown with a white tail.
Well the spring game is about to start, so I hope this little lesson helped our understanding of the two kinds of Jackrabbits. Class dismissed! ;D
Go Jackrabbits!
